911 turbo S, possible investment opportunity?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2013-...6e4df717#v4-37

I'm probably the last person on earth to give a rat's rear end about Porsche (aka overpriced ugly VW beetle). But I read about this car on Jalopnik. It used to be Chris Brown's and he crashed it. The car is practically new, and the price seems very attractive. If you buy the same car from a dealer here in Canada you will pay twice that amount.

Furthermore, the damage doesn't appear to be too bad in the pics. Just an airbag, front bumper, a fender dent, and some plastic pieces. It seems easily repairable for a relatively small amount of money.

However, the car does have a salvage title. I wonder if there is possibly some frame damage or any other hidden damage underneath that isn't obvious in the pictures. I find it hard to believe that a car like this would be written off just because of an airbag and front bumper cover.

I have to say the pricing really tempts me. The thought came to me to import this car, fix the damage, and then either drive it or sell it for a profit here in Canada. Of course the salvage title on the car would seem to suggest the prepair cost might end up far more than I anticipated. What do you guys think?

Did Chris Brown crash his fist into the front bumper?

IMO, spending $100G on a salvage title car is kind of crazy. It'll be expensive to fix the car with OEM parts as well. And who will buy the car afterwards? People who buy these cars are usually pretty meticulous no?

True what you say. But a car like this can easily fetch $170-180k or so on the market without the accident. And although it's a high end car, I doubt repair costs would be terribly expensive if all it needed was an airbag, front bumper, and a repairable fender dent. If so, I doubt this car would not sell for $130k or so. Of course the real issue though is the possibility of more extensive damage. I can't see why this car would have a salvage title unless there was more frame damage hidden underneath. I emailed the seller to ask, and haven't yet received a reply.

Don't just walk, but run away from this car.
If you are looking to buy and flip this car for a profit, you are making a mistake.

The devil is always in the details. OP, I think you're being a bit overly optimistic with the extent of the damage. If it was as simple to fix as you presumed, the car wouldn't have been branded w/ a salvaged title.

Good luck selling a salvaged Porsche! Who has that kind of money to spend on a salvage?

You must not have looked at the pics... Notice the bumper carrier is not centered with the front of the car; and what is the bumper carrier connected to? That's right, frame damage.

He probably beat on it the same way he beat on Rihanna.

I'm surprised this conversation got as far as it did. You won't be able to import a salvage title car for repair.

Ouch! Yeah, now that I look at it again. I think you're right.

Really? Why is that? What if it's for offroad use, like for example building a dedicated track car?

You can import a salvage title car for parts or for rebuilding. If imported for parts, you have to show it was parted. In Ontario, a salvage title car cannot be driven, so even though RIV allows it, you'll have all sorts of problems (you'll need to have it rebuilt certified etc, and Porsche won't give you a recall letter on a salvage title). In addition, because the car has a VIN, you'll have a hard time showing its only for off-road use, and the CBSA may refuse its import.

this is what you need to worry about circled in RED obviously the frame is bend otherwise that car is not going to get a salvage title if it's just the front bumper and fender like you think. either or good luck
