What is the biggest displacement s65 out there?

A friend and I were discussing this the other day. Can any of the engine builders chime in? Is it possible to do a 5L out of a S65? What are limitations of this block. I assume it might be easier to swap a V10 no?

I believe the 4.7L stroker kit is the biggest.

Bore wise, there is not much to do. The stock cylinder wall thickness is just 6mm, so you can only bore-out the engine by 1-2mm.
As for the stroke iirc it can goes up to 85mm. I heard that from a BMW mechanic (I don't recall if it's because of deck height limit or crank room limit). So 4.7 would be the biggest displacement.

Thank you guys. Thats what I thought about the cylinder wall thickness as well. It would be awesome to have a big NA hp car.

For what it would cost and risk for high HP NA build its not worth it. Much easier and safer to go SC.

Ya I agree but the driving experience of an NA car is completely different. Might be a fun build and something different.

have you driven a supercharged S65? you wouldn't know that it was forced induction if nobody told you (power aside, of course). they honestly drive just like they do naturally aspirated (same throttle response, sound, etc.), only with 50% more power.

if you're interested in the unholy pursuit of horsepower, supercharged is the best way to go IMO.

Absolutely agree.

The driving dynamics are unchanged, except for the brutal jump in HP and TQ.

I'm with u on this one although my E90 is not force fed my prior E46 M3 was and it drivability was very nice stock like

I'm sure it is but I was just curious as to whats out there thats all. When I do go for more power its going to be sc for sure.

I would choose a stroker over a supercharger anytime. It is much more fascinating.

Fascinating it is but costs are much more prohibitive for essentially same or lower amount of power.

The cost/power ratio with supercharger is definitely better. On the other side I often ask myself, do you need so much power? Excessively supercharged M3 loose their balance in my opinion and without seriously improving the traction on the rear axle you can't really use all the power at the race track. Apart from that you will also have to deal with overheating issues and this would mean further expensive tuning.
For a daily driver it's also quite ridiculous. Even the 400hp stock are more than enough. Especially in countries like the US where you can't really drive faster than 65-80MHP on a public road.

With a stroker you get that extra power kick, without going too crazy and being too hard on gearbox, engine, diff etc. Although I still have to agree that the price you pay doesn't correspond with the power gains. That's also the main reason which keeps me from doing it.

If i wanted to build my engine, i would stick with the current stroke, Raise CR to 13:1 (wish we had E85 here), VAC stage 3 heads and rev it to 9,000 or even higher.

It does feel a tad mushy in the low end compared to stock. Losing throttle response in lower rpm's is a part of centrifugal supercharger character. Can't change that. But up top it's just great.

I came from GM LS series engines and coming to this engine. I wouldn't even touch it internally speaking. Nothing to work with lol .

Match your intake manifold to your car when you do it. Sick color, one of my all time favorites.
