Had planned to change them for "preventative maintaince" since it had so many boosted miles and I was upping the power. Glad I did!

So would you say the bearings were on their way out due to being boosted for so long or just due to overall mileage of the car?

Awesome. Can you post the dimensions and offsets of those wheels? Love the depth.

Nice. I love reading stuff like this. 90k and still pulling strong.

So to change the upper and lower rod bearings, all you had to do was drain the oil and drop the pan? Everything was accessible that way?

I've never worked inside an S65, but I've done a rod bearing replacement without removing the crank before. You can change the rod bearings by working in groups. I don't know the firing order of the S65, but you rotate the crank and work on pistons that are at bottom dead center. You pull the cap, put the rod bolts back in, then push the piston up with your fingers (you pulled the spark plugs before you started). It's pretty easy to get the clearance you need to remove the rod-side bearing.

Congrats on your new Gen 2 Upgrade. There seem to be many Gen 2 transformations going on right now but ill try and keep a close eye on this build as it should be a good one. I still cant believe how many miles you have problem free! Wish I was so lucky with my 135.

Definitely going to follow this. Getting off to a great start! Looks like the S65 held up to boost nicely, any plans for a low compression build?

A bit of both. The '08s have been known to have rod bearing problems, so with that in mind, since I was upping the power, new bearings seemed like an obvious choice.

Not exactly...

Caught them just in time. No crank damage

First time with a twin disk. Strange getting used to, but I think I'll grow to like it

Strassed Forged SM8, 20x9 front and 20x11 rear. Unfortunately I don't have any offset info on them. They have since been sold to free up a little cash for the next set in this project

Subframe dropped, oil pan drained and dropped, unbolt the rods, and push the piston up to get the upper bearings. There you have it!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! Glad to see you're all as excited about this build as I am

Huzzah! That's some healthy wear. Did you see any oil pressure drop at that wear level? How are you feeling about the mains?

You guys build a great product that meshes well with the great stuff we've all come to know and love out of BMW. Perfect match, IMO. I expect many more high-powered miles with this car

Just wait till you feel how smooth the new Rotrex is compared to the hks. You will be all

And oh yeah the extra 65whp should be nice too.
