This past weekend.

3 club members purchased new cars: 2 M3s and a Type R straight from the Motherland.

Anyone locally have the FULL Akra exhaust system I can give it a listen?

I have the rear slip on portion and debating if the X-pipe might be too loud with kids in the back?

btw, nice picture! Where was this taken at?

Parking lot next the transbay terminal. I think we have a couple of full Akra exhausts in our FB group.

A bunch of the guys have the full Akra Evo. I have the Akra slip-on with AA x-pipe if you're interested in hearing it.

Is there any major difference in the ActiveAuto X-pipe vs. the Akra one or Challenge X-pipe from GTM?

Sure I'd love to hear it and we can compare notes

I'm near Cisco (milpitas area) or we can meet at my shop in Fremont off Automall.

That's pretty close to where I work in Sunnyvale, just a run down 237.

I think the Akra has 100 cel HFC which they place near the center brace vs the AA which has 200 cel (they may have changed this on the newer version) which are placed in the same position as the stock x-pipe cats. I'm not familiar with the challenge, but I believe it is a similar setup as the AA.

I think Trev Nish posted a video of Urmil and I doing a few fly bys. That would be a good comparison because he has the full Akra. Are you in FB group? If so I can tag you on the post.

Don't think I'm on FB group just yet....cool love to hear your rides!

Does the supercharger change the way the motor sounds? I know my blown s2000's sound totally different from my N/A one even with the same exhaust. Is there more gear whine or motor noise with the charger?

If you want me to add you, PM me with your FB info.

The SC definitely changes the way the motor sounds. There is a noticeable whine/whistle and the idle is a good amount louder. I wouldn't say my exhaust note is much different (louder, but wouldn't say different). I'll take you for a ride and you can hear for yourself

They completely change the sound.

I said this over on the Engine / etc forum, but I'll say it again here... the thin Akrapovic X-pipes change the sound. Once they are warmed up most of the tinniness goes away, but I still prefer steel x pipes... and the factory X pipe with it's 200 cell secondary cats actually flows very well, my Turner Test pipes with Akrapovic rear section were within less than 10 hp of my Akrapovic Evolution.

The AA x-pipe and the Challenge sound the same if you get them catless. (the Challenge can also be had without resonators, which I wouldn't recommend as it increases the rasp by a bunch) The AA high flow cats, are in the stock primary location, which isn't as good for scavenging and make it much quieter. The Challenge Race is catless with a resonator, Race + is with no resonators, and the Sport has high flow cats where the Akrapovic has them (past the secondary 02 sensors, so you need a tune or something to deal with the check engine light, which could just be patience and a blind eye) The Challenge street pipe goes after the factory primary cats and does pretty close to zero for power. (I consider anything less than 10hp "close to zero"

Anyway, they all sound different. The Turner test pipes (the ones I recommend because I've used them and they were the first to market, although $400 for a 2' piece of steel with 02 sensor bungs is a little silly) are my current favorite for sound and budget. (they do require cutting the stock x-pipe but it is easier reversible for anyone with a welder)

Here's the vid of Urmil and my exhausts:

Nope just my e90. Thank you! Urmil's brakes were staring at me all day haha.

Do you work at Cisco or just near by? I'm assuming not at Cisco since you said near by. I'm at Aruba, so hopefully we aren't competitors

He has Brembo GT 380.

I live in Campbell but am right in between SJ and Los Gatos, so let me know if you're in the area sometime.
