Fuel Pump Warning (Help)
Hey guys, sorry if this isn't in the right section. Just trying to get some information related to this.
I just got a warning when I was on the highway that said I have an issue with the fuel pump. I just purchased this car and unsure what to do at this point. I'll attach a picture of the image I received. The car is out of warranty. Thanks for the help in advance. My questions are, 1)Should I take this to BMW to have them check it out? 2)Should I just replace the fuel pump at an independent dealer? 3)Should I wait and see if the error persists? 4)Does anyone know how much a fuel pump installed would cost? Thanks, Will |

Same thing happened to me on the highway, got the engine malfunction/reduced power thing too. I just stopped the car and restarted and it went away. I was low on gas at the time so hopefully it was just a one time thing.

Fuel pump is not something I would just try to see if it goes away or restart the car or even continue to drive. It is something that will leave you stranded if it goes out. Better to pay to have it diagnosed at the dealer.
This is part of ownership of a used m3 without a warranty |

Yeah, I'm having it checked out in the morning. The fuel pump error went away when I started the car but now I get this error.
Very strange but now the car accelerates fine it just throws this annoying error. Thanks for all the help and advice. |

Just an update to what happened. Supposedly it has to do with the fuel pump sensor and it's going to require a new part and coding of the new sensor / controller. This is from an independent mechanic that I fully trust and he said the total cost should only be ~$600.
Hope this is helpful. If I get more info I will let you know ASAP. |

This same problem has been a nightmare for me. My car is in the dealer right now for a fourth try at correcting the same situation you are describing. So far they have changed the fuel pump, fuel rail sensor and a complete coil pack. Hope your mechanic is better at diagnosing this than my dealer is.

I had the same problem, went to independent mechanic and it cost me 50$. He said he cleaned the pump
I have 2007 e92 m3 and i can say that u guys here pay too much for the mechanic things. M3 is bulletproof, maybe if u clean the sensor all will be fine ![]() |

I hate to be negative but why is everyone so apt to take it somewhere and flush money down the toilet??? Get a voltmeter, some standard tools and get your hands dirty. Most of us have cars like this because we're enthusiasts and its a "hobby" of sorts. It just blows me away that everyone is afraid to work on an M3 like it runs on black magic and fairy dust.
$700?! That's just plain retarted. |

Thanks. I got mine back Saturday. They replaced the same part you are describing I think.....Fuel pump control module....I'll post a part number for those who might be experiencing this problem.
