Top Speed Limiter Removal Option

I have placed a deposit for an Alpine White M3, that will be arriving first week of December. I have asked my sales rep about the Top Speed Removal Option, and he has no idea. There is no official information, at least here in Spain.

Do you have any information about it? I have read something in the web saying 280 Km/h and 2.500 Euros.

I know Dinan had a software tune for the E46 M3 that removed the limiter and increased throttle response. My dealer performed the software flash for me. I don't know that they have one available for the E92 M3 yet, but I'm sure it won't be long.

There's indeed the socalled "M Driver's Package." Features the raised top speed of 280 km/h and a coupon for a driving course.
Option code is 7ME, costs some 2.000€ excl. VAT and you have to keep the rear spoiler. That's how it is in Germany, but shouldn't be different in Spain.
Your dealer should be able to order this.

I think in the U.S. the only way to handle it is having aftermarket software
(dinan is aftermarket software even if it is with "BMW" tuning)
unless the rumor is true and they have been thrown out

Yep, that's exactly it. 2500 Euros for a driving course and the switch to 280. I think if you really really want that, your better off with a real de-limit from a chip tuner for about 500 Euros...

Personally I won't do that because for the 5 minutes per year where you can drive 250+ on the German autobahn it's just not worth it.

You might want to break in the car first before you think about removing the top speed limiter. But thats just me.

Money making scam!

Shame on BMW.

What they are saying is they are happy to let customers drive at a safe 250 but for the extra 30km/h you need driver training. At the training I bet you will not even get close to 280. Makes no sense to me at all!

It's not just about making money; there is actually a reason behind this: Ever wondered why all German car makers (except Porsche) limit their cars to 250? There is an agreement between all those companies. So this is just BMW's way to avoid breaking the agreement.

They have all broken the agreement in one way or another. The agreement is hardly still in place. It is stupid and plain and simply money making. Rather gear the car differently and give us a faster 0-60.

M cars shouldn't have a speed limiter... I'll be annoyed if I'm driving one with a normal big engined BMW sticking to my rear at 250kph. Or imagine a 507bhp M5 overtaken by a 295bhp Cayman S

Anyway, speed limter or not, you'll be as dead in an accident at 250kph as at 300kph

Could be some truth to that. The M3 comes with Z-rated tires, which are good for "over 149 mph". How far over is not clear. Maybe the delimited cars will come with W-rated (168 mph) or Y-rated (186 mph) tires.

Nope, that's a different story. In Switzerland (and probably also in other countries) you have to use tires that are certified for the maximum speed of your car. (kind of stupid that I have to buy tires certified for 250km/h, even though the national speed limit is 120km/h, but that's the law)
