I hear you - I feel like I'm at the limit of daily driver usability with this compact spare in the trunk. If it were any bigger, I'd be flipping down the rear seats often, just to get the groceries home. As it is, I have just enough space with the compact spare.

But man, these Maxis tires stink! As in fresh rubber smell. It's not going away, either. Phew.

Search bavauto.com for "spare tire bag." It's an OEM bag and seems to have latches that hook up to the loops in the trunk. It might keep the smell in too:
