Recommend good noise cancelling headphones

Hey everyone

I have been trying to find the best noise cancelling headphones and have been unlucky. Any one in particular that you guys know works very well? They would be used for studying.

So far it seems like Bose QuietComfort 15 are the best.

I have the Shure SE425's but they are earbuds.
With those badboys in and music playing you won't hear a thing!

Bose QC 15. Nothing touches Bose noise canceling, nothing. I used Bose aviation 10 while flying as well, same technology, unbelievable quiet. Don't think twice man, do it.

Do you have more preference towards sound quality or noise cancellation? Bose does the latter but is awful at the former. If SQ matters, look at Sennheiser. If marketing spend and poor SQ appeal, Bose is tops.

Im really focusing on headphones that are able to cancel noise. These will be used for studying mainly.

Does Sennheiser have good noise cancelling abilities?

I just bought some Shure 215. I know they are low end, but...so far the best earbuds I have ever owned.

Sennheiser's noise canceling is good, not as solid as Bose, but the sound quality is much better. Are you studying in a library or similar? In ears can be just as effective, aside from the fact that many people don't notice you're wearing them.

Yes studying in library is exactly what they will be used for.

Either in ears or headphones will work.
Seems like the bose have best noise cancelling but if there is an in ear equally as good then I wouldn't mind buying that instead.

I've battled with this a few times. If what you want is really good sound suppression then the Sure sound isolating earphones are going to be your best bet. I've tried various sound-cancelling headphones stuff and they work "ok." Plug those Sure's into you ear and you'll be hard pressed to hear anything.

Shures' are good, I use Etymotics, but there are a lot of good options. In ears tend to not be as comfortable, especially over many hours, and the cord can conduct noise if you're moving. I generally prefer in ear for work and noise suppressing for flights, etc. The Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B look promising for the cost, but I haven't actually tried them myself.

For over the ear, 840's are great, they're not noise cancelling, but they are closed, and fairly isolated. I'm using a pair of AKG 271's right now that are another, great closed can. For in ear, Shure 315 and 425 are both good choices. If you're using an iPod or similar, you might also look into the Etymotic ER-4P's.

So Shure 315 and 425 are good for noise canceling? Better than the bose qc15?

This is a bit of tough call, my experience is in ear and closed headphones block as much or more ambient noise than noise cancelling headphones, where active noise cancellation really helps is with things like airplanes. It's a mixed bag, as very few noise cancellation headphones have good sound quality, if you're certain you want active noise cancellation, you may be best suited by the Sennheiser PXC-450's.
