Chevy SS
The all new Chevy SS posts 415 horse power, which is just as much as the current M3, but early test result indicate it can't break 5.0 in a 0-60 test.
Typical American engineering. |

There are no early tests that I've seen. Chevy "predicts" 5 seconds. Motor Trend predicts 4.5. And $38,000... You need to compare it to the 328 if you just care about 0-60 Now let's compare the Camaro ZL1 to the M3. Even the $40,000 Camaro SS 1LE is faster around a track than the M5 or M6

I can tell you the G8 was almost as good as any BMW Ive driven and the Camaro SS 1LE and Cadillac ATS sound amazing in their reviews. I love BMWs but Im not full of kool-aid either. |

I assume it's still a fat whale, like the Camaro and G8?

I must have had my facts wrong, I thought I recalled the old G8 GXP being over 4k pounds. Of course the weight you listed is probably the V6, so the SS is still probably a pig and a half. The Corvette has its weight in check, as does the ATS, so it's strange that the Camaro and the G8/SS are so pudgy. If they brought the SS in around F30 weights, or even within a few hundred pounds, I'll be impressed, but I suspect this won't happen. |

Weight aside, one thing I don't like: the transmission. No paddle shift, no manual. Kinda takes the fun out of that 415hp motor.

Having said all that, I'd still consider the SS if they make a three pedal car, but as for shift paddles, count me as one who doesn't care. |

I think Chevy missed the mark by not offering a manual in this car. The Pontiac GXP had one, not sure why they chose not to with the SS. IMO. the lack of a manual and bland front end styling will hurt this car's chances.

Agreed, I'm hoping there's a hotter version coming, with an available manual, like they did with the G8, with the GT and GXP versions.

No manual is my one gripe with the car. But you can't really fault GM for putting out an affordable car with rear wheel drive, 50/50 weight balance, and a 6.2L V8. My guess is the dual clutch they have in development will find its way in this car.
