Launch control issue
Alright so I have a 09 e92 m3 with the DCT and I followed these steps to do the launch control.....
1 Turn on power button 2 Turn off DSC 3 Drove more then 6 miles and pushed up the 6 bars 4 Released brake and held forward until checkered flag shows up 5 Gas all the way down 6 Release shifter and held gas down My issue is that when I release the brake and then put the gas to the floor the car moves like the clutch is slipping. I'm on flat ground so that isn't the issue. Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. |

Are you positive you are on flat ground? My car will roll forward the same way if its not perfect. It seems I can only engage launch control 5% of the time because of this.
Your steps are correct.. oil temp needs to be at normal temperatures as well otherwise it won't work, but if the checkered flag is coming up, then it should be working fine. Are you actually seeing the flag? How is the car moving like the clutch is slipping? Can you describe it better? |

Yes the checkered flag does show up. As soon as I let off the brake and hold the shifter forward then push the gas pedal down is when it starts moving forward. I will double check to make sure the ground is perfectly flat again though.

The car moves forward even on flat ground due to engine vibration. As soon as u get the flag and it revs, release the stick quickly. Why are u launching on the street? You won't gain anything and have everything to loose...

I never said it was illegal. All your gonna get is a lot of wheel spin, even on R compound tires. If you get wheel hop which is possible, you run the risk of breaking something in the rear. So I'll ask,you again....what are you trying to accomplish? If its spinning tires and looking cool you will accomplish that. If your trying to get a good launch, it will never happen.

LC allows me a perfect launch and allows the quickest times I ever am able to do with a DCT. Only other option is to just press the pedal down from a stop but the problem is you waste time in 1-5k RPMS where the engine is not in its powerband whereas LC allows you to access the powerband from time 0.
I don't do it often but for the best launch it certainly works. |

I just got the car and don't plan on ever tracking the car. I wanted to try the LC.

OP, go ahead and enjoy the car, including LC! BMW did not put it there not to use and they cannot and will not deny a claim for its use. Sure, using it all the time is silly as ultimately what is the point but to use it a few times here or there to feel what a full out pull feels like from a stop is pretty cool.
I personally get more enjoyment out of slower rolling bursts in 2nd gear. You get the full press back into your seat and are at the powerband the entire time with no tire spin. Best "feeling" in my view. |

correct. It drops the clutch at 3k. do it enough times and you will fry your clutch! Guaranteed....happened to well known forum member after one day at the 1/4 mile track

I have the same problem. You can't have the brake on to initiate launch control. And the car will not roll forward until you floor it...at which point I still haven't released the lever.
I don't get how you can use this usefully if it rolls forward when you don't want to. It's like the engine revving is slowly engaging the clutch pushing the car forward. Weak! |

I can't wait to get out of the break-in period so I can try this out. Patience is NOT one of my virtues.
