I have been using a K&N on my car. In Canada, it actually was the cheaper option. I paid $75 +tax. The other filters were all $100+ due to shipping and duties.
I used K&N filters on my previous cars and never had a bad experience. On the M3, it added a nice growl to full throttle induction noises. The car also felt slightly more responsive. My M3 is an '08 that had the restrictive charcoal lined filter. So I can only recomend it . |

That's my point! Earlier E9x M3's had a more restrictive charcoal lined air filter. More recent models have the same euro edition air filters, which are less restrictive. Lets be honest here: There are NO MAJOR GAINS in horsepower by changing the air filter on latter models. I like how your filter is built (excellent build quality) and the intake sound that comes with it, though. I will be buying it again.

Our filters were originally designed to replace the early filter and we saw gains upwards of 8-10hp. We later adapted it for the new style airbox. While gains were not as impressive against the euro filter, it is still worthwhile to run to get every bit of power out of your ///M Last edited by SflBimmer8484; 02-09-2013 at 10:16 AM.. |

I had both K&N and AA green filter. I love AA more than K&N. Why? Better build quality. I can take pictures of both if no one believes me. I have AA in the car, and K&N in my storage room.

What if Andrew offered you MSRP of $99 but $15 shipping?
The AA pulley apparently has a steel plate at the end that increases the weight, but probably makes it more rigid (not that BMW or K&N have a problem with plastic there). The extra weight may affect shipping charges, but an extra pound is not going to be measurable on the racetrack where some members seem to drive all of the time. |

I've used K&N filters in all my cars including my M3. I bought one from Amazon for $68 with free shipping. I too had the older charcoal lined filter and I did notice a small increase in engine sound. The power gains are minimal if any as most have mentioned, but it seems the factory intake design is already very efficient.
