I also believe it's a reflection of our society's current state of insanity. I'm better off minding my own bizzness but very willing to return a friendly

Not once has an Explorer driver ever returned my peace sign. Not even fellow gen 3ers.

I have had the opposite experience.. I get love from lots of other bimmer drivers; especially M3s. I even get thumbs-ups from Porsche drivers a lot of times.

This whole thing is based on where you geographically located.

If there's a lot of nice cars there.. no one gives a shit. If there's not, in my experience, people tend to notice and comment.

I usually get a lot of thumbs up from other M3 drivers.

Similarly from an RS4 driver I was playing around with a few weeks back.

I do notice that I get less attention with my winter 18's than I do with my Competition 19's. Car is a bit flashier with those wheels, otherwise it is a relative sleeper.

We are all bunch of A-Holes..... :-)

I've always gotten thumbs up on my cars and of course never flipped anyone off in return.

When I drove around in a Subaru STi, consistent appreciation from other Subaru drivers.

When I drove around in a Acura RSX, consistent appreciation from other RSX drivers.

When I drive around in my E90 M3, RARELY do I get (good) responses from them. I give them a thumbs up or a happy head-nod, they either ignore me or RARELY return the gesture.

Mo Money, Mo Problems?

I think someone hit on earlier..some M3 drivers tend to think they are in a special or unique car..so they get butt hurt when they see another car like theirs on the road

I don't think your experience was a "BMW" related incident. Moved out here (SoCal) from NYC 6 years ago and I find most people out here to be introverted pricks that have this false sense of entitlement and never say anything to your face.

Not saying everyone is like that but there is a lot of "douchbaggery" down here. Most of the people that I have met on this forum have been stand up gents.

2013 BMW M3  [0.00]
I have yet to receive my new M3, so I cannot comment directly on BMW camaraderie but I have met some of the coolest and knowledgable car enthusiasts on this board. Driving a Porsche GT3 I always get other Porsche owners thumbs up and the "roll down your window" motion at stop lights. It's like a brotherhood owning a 911. I plan on saluting and chatting with other M owners while driving mine, regardless of their reaction.

You East Coasters are so warm and fuzzy.

How come every time I come out to NY I am treated like shit?

I agree SoCal has it's fair share of ass hats. Like I won't acknowledge you in your M3 if you had, say, bleached spikey hair and looked like you were 40... I mean I already know the response I am going to get from you... (I just described some guy in my neighborhood)

Back in the day, BMW owners used to flash each other and it was understood. It was rare to see other BMW owners.......

Today, I pull up beside another MW E92M3 in my Black E93M3 and give him a thumb up. He flips me off and takes off.....WTF?

Do we need to be like this to each other?

This is even evident between BMW owners that have older Model Year BMW's. They look at you like, "what? you think you're better than us non-M3 owners?" I get this all the time when filling up.....

Before you think that it's me, this was never a case when driving my other +15 non-M BMW's over the years.....
oh that was your thumb? sorry, I thought you were giving me the finger

We should have our own hand signals for the M3 Forum so we know if someone is from this forum?

The other day I honked softly passing a White E90 M3 in HWY 92 and the guy ignored me... oh well it was first time... I will keep saying hi... regardless

Maybe they slow down in hopes that you will pass them so they can see your car. I've done that before...

All good for me so far. Not to many M3's here in tuckson. Best compliment I have gotten was from this guy in a FX35 with his windows down blaring music. He turns his music down and yells that "s*** is sick, so f*** hard bro!" Kind of caught me off guard but I gave him the thumbs up and went on my way.
