roll racing advice

I'm heading out to an airstrip roll racing event for the first time in the near future and wanted to get some feedback on technique...what works best basically.

Car is DCT...

The obvious thing to get a good pull is to roll into the start line in "S" mode @ high RPM's (5K+) and punch it...where I'm questioning myself is whether to manually paddle shift upwards or to switch to "D" mode while WOT and letting the tranny do the work by presumably getting the perfect shift?

what do you guys think?

Technique and settings (MDM or DSC off) will depend on airstrip conditions. If it's full of sand/debris you will spin badly with on the initial hit with DSC off and basically you will have to abort your run. In those conditions, you will need MDM on...which will save you from spinning violently but unfortunately causes a slight delay in your upshifts. Took me a few runs before I learned to "roll on" to the throttle to avoid wheel spin (even with MDM on) at the Coalinga event. Definitely keep the "power" button off.

The BK airstrip may be in better shape given that it's protected from the desert with some farmland to the west.

See you there.

See you there...looks like we have identical power mods! I've watched some of your vids before...it'll be a fun day. From what I hear the strip will have much less debris.

Awesome see you there! Did you also sign up for the Shift-S3ctor Coalinga event also?

I have not signed up for Coalinga yet...the negative comments regarding the strip conditions last event are kind of turning me off, not to mention its 3.5 hours north of LA; kind of a haul. I guess I'll have to see how much I like bakersfield since I'm a complete newb

Wanna caravan up to Bakersfield Friday night?
