Pulley Installation
If anybody in the LA area knows how to install the underdrive pulleys and is willing to help me install mine for less than the shops please let me know. Thanks in advance.

You might want to try posting this in the regional section.
I just paid a couple hundred to have my belts changed, I assume changing the pulley would be roughly the same. Just pay a reputable shop to do it ![]()

You can listen to Mike and take it to a shop or you can follow the DIY if you feel comfortable doing it !

Pretty simple DIY, shop was charging me $300, I did it myself in about one hour. Take it to a shop if you are not confident in your mechanical skills.

Everyone posting that it's really easy makes me curious.
I'm very mechanically inclined but much more electronically inclined. Maybe next time I'll give the DIY a whirl. Does anyone have a link to it? I didn't mind paying at all to get it originally installed, or to have the belts replaced last week. I know someone who is making a pulley out of titanium and I'll use my DIYer skills then ![]()

Matt schnell has a good video showing step by step. AA has written instructions. The only tricky part of my install was getting the radiator fan out and back in. Not much room for wiggle. 45-60in install.

The Macht Schnell video was good but I still remember having some unanswered questions until I did the DIY. IIRC the belt paths shown in the video are for the older cars so make sure to search the forums and use the correct path for your model year. Also, I don't think the videos explains why, but you remove the idler pulley in order to get the alternator side belt off, it has nothing to do with being able to uninstall/reinstall the power steering side belt. |

Also I posted a thread in the DIY listing the torque specs for screws. Idler pulley I think is like 40 mn and the pulley screws are 23 nm when reinstalling.

I am a DIY person. In the past 5 years, I have used a shop only for alignments. You can buy an engine hoist for $99, a 12 ton shop press for $99, a mig welder for $500, a two post lift for $1400, etc. and you can find instructions, pictures, and sometimes even videos online. Great way to bond with your car.
