Thumbs up Rumor: AMG Black Series competitors coming from BMW for the US?

BIMMERPOST

Quote:
While at the Detroit Auto Show this year, the BMW PR machine revealed 2013 will be "an interesting year" and that buyers can expect one or two products aimed specifically at swiping buyers from the clutches of the C63 AMG Black Series. The news came courtesy of Automobile writer Marc Noordeloos' Twitter machine.

Noordeloos reportedly interviewed several executives familiar with the M models while in Detroit, and says the M division would like to offer hardware like the M3 CSL, GTS or CRT to buyers here in the States. That sounds great to us, but saying something doesn't make it true, and manufacturers rarely find it in their hearts to bring money-losing machines to our green shores. Still, that won't stop us from crossing our fingers.

BMW is going to have to do more than number the limited edition on the dash trim, change the color of the gills, hood vents, and door kick plates to compete with AMG BS cars.

Even the dry weave CF diffuser and spoiler are conservative.. granted BMW will never be as shouty as AMG.. but it still feels a little underwhelming.

Just my opinion.

Would take a lot of M3 tweaking to compete with the AMG Black, no?

Agreed fully. Lately most of the special models that have been coming out just deal with trim, paint, or showcase a few "performance" specialty parts.

I think there will have to be some added power and actual performance mods. Not just a competition package.

Let's all move to Montana so we can actually drive such cars as they were meant to be.

"Brand new packaging, same old products." That's what recent M3 editions have been known for. I hope they shake up the performance figures for the outgoing M3 before going onto the F8X series M3's which will then get it's door blown off by the next generation C63 AMG.

Well, yes. But that is not difficult for BMW. It will be difficult for dreamers to afford and for potential clients to justify.

There so different cars. Black series cars are crazy powerful and torquey, but lack the finesse of an M car. If you want to do crazy burnouts, go get any AMG or Black series MB. If you want a car with surgical precision to race, you buy an M car.

Frankly, I hope BMW stays away from that market space.

Cheers,
Tony

I believe that what they mean is that they will come out with a product that will rival the AMG Black series, not that they are going to make an identical series.
What I am saying is, BMW could potentially come out with more "track focused", more bare bones, hardcore products to rival this other cars in that price range while still doing it in BMW fashion, which is precision, like weight savings, mild HP increase and all the other good stuff we have seen from the CSL, GTS and CRT; rather than crazy HP and TQ figures.

Anyways I do like the sound of this even though I probably won't be able to afford any these cars.

Do not forget that at the same time BMW offered the 1er M Coupe and M3 GTS to North America but rejected the M3 GTS due to its stripped personality against the more performance luxury orientated M3. M3 customers would not give up the M3's luxuries for that price.

The black series are something AMG does extremely well, I honestly can't imagine BMW being able to do it better. They might prove me wrong though, who knows?

^^^This

I don't think BMW wants to have an M3 that goes toe and toe with a C63 black series. I think they want to enhance the performance of the M3 similar to the GTS or CRT. The E92 M3 is approaching the end of its lifecycle so I wouldn't be surprised if BMW released an ultimate M3 (similar to the E90 CRT) as a send off and who knows, maybe they will be sending this over to the states.

That's the keyword. Would. Has BMW ever imported stripped out models to US to see if it sells there or not?

Porsche, Ford, Mercedes, Maserati (a lot more luxurious than M3), Jaguar, Ferrari, Audi, Lamborghini can sell their stripped out models but BMW, the company that brought the 3.0CSL in 70's, can't?

If this applies to the F82, all I can say is: please let it be a V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8

If it's the ultimate E92 M3, then that's good too I guess...

If you want a car with surgical precision to race, you buy a GT3 RS 4.0

I think the M's fit somewhere in between the loud and gnarly AMGs and the scalpel precise P-cars.

Hope they bring back the NA saloon to compare with the AMG BS and beef up their horses.
