Ran NT01s at 35psi this weekend...good and bad
Purple Durple recommended it and it was AWESOME! My cold pressures were 25psi and they pretty much looked flat but the grip was outstanding and consistent from start to finish. Warm up lap? Don't need it. Greasy? Never.
My observations. 1. When there was a full course black/yellow, I came in the pits for 4 minutes. Went back out and they were terrible for the rest of the session. Not sure why but they were great the next session. 2. I have 2 massive chunks missing, down to the cords. I'm sure it happened this past weekend. I think the lower pressures make them more suspectible to chunking if you catch a curb (I did). 3. First time I had to add air after sessions to get the pressures up to 35psi hot in the morning. 4. You need MORE camber. I had -2.5fr and -1.35rr and I murdered the outsides. 5. Less pressure rise. I got 13-14 psi starting at 27psi vs. 10 psi starting at 25 psi. 6. They no longer make that cooing sound...I miss that. It was relaxing. I know, real men start at 25psi but I think I'll go with 36-37 psi hot and see how it goes. |

I ran into someone at Watkins Glen who was running 32 psi hot with NT-01's and he also said the grip was great. He had very fast times in his e92 M3. He didn't say anything about wear.
I am still running 38 hot and getting great wear ( chamber -2.2F) and the grip is fine for me. Might try the lowering the psi once, but expect I would be trading off wear and life for it.

Yeah, I'm thinking that I should be running higher pressures with my conservative camber settings. But Purple Derple was right...35psi hot is awesome! |

Yah, I would expect a much light car like a porsche could run 32 psi on NT-01's, but the M3 is a heavy pig and should need more pressure.
I guess if you come from Hoosiers and only expect to get a weekend out of a set of tires, dropping the pressure on the NT-01's to shorten their life still is much cheaper. I like getting 12+ days out of my NT-01's......... Wife is going to put me on a budget ![]()

NT01's can and do get greasy, as evidenced by my car towards the latter half of this video after extended hot laps session:
. A racing shop who did my last suspension setup recommended running NT01's at 33~34 psi hot and, so far, seem great. No complaints.

What kind of life are you getting? I'm not sure I can afford 35psi. Might have to go with 38psi.
![]() I think 35psi is like an M3. 38psi is like a 335i. Its close...just not as good and you know it. |

Ran 3 track days and I think I have a couple more days left. An E90 M3 track buddy with similar setup as mine (quoting him) did 4 or 5 days on his recently.
But yeah, I'm sure the stickiness with lower PSI comes with a shorter tread life trade-off, albeit 1 day difference?

I've always done it this way, do a session, check the pressures, make sure they are around 34 hot. Also depends on the tyre. My dunlops are fine at 34, a friend had yokohama R spec tyres and he needed to go a bit higher, was getting bad wear / feathering on the fronts. Increased the pressure and it was fine.
