Would you let a bodyshop rapaint a part a second time if they didn't do it right?

Long story short I got a new bumper after someone hit me and a recomended body shop by bmw painted it completely wrong. I told my insurance and they told me theres nothing they can do because its not a guaranteed shop by them and they said that they talked to them and now they want to repaint it. I also told bmw and they also said they would talk to the bodyshop.

So right now I have two options.
1. I can go and get it repainted for free at the same bodyshop (but i dont trust them)

2. I can go to another body shop that said they can get it right but I have to pay $300 for them to test to get the paint right and probably another $300 to get them to paint it. Then more for the clear bra.

What do you guys think? What would you do? The manager at the first body shop sounded nice and said that he would do anything for them to satisfy their customers especially from BMW. If I chose 2 should I get lawyers involved after the painting is done?

Yes I would..

but you should sue the first body shop to recoupe the money for that botched job..they are clearly incompentent.

You should give the shop that painted it incorrectly a chance to correct the issue.

Without allowing them to correct the work that you are unsatisfied with, you can sue all day long and you didn't do your duty to mitigate damages. If they told you that they would not attempt to fix it, that's a different story.

Give them the opportunity to do the right thing and make your expectations clear.

If then it doesn't work out, pursue other alternatives.

Think it would work? I dont want they judge saying that they offered to repaint it. They said that they wouldnt pay another body shop to do it/ to give me the money back.

You sue them in smalls claims court after you paint it..I dont think a judge would make you use them when they did this bad of a job . JUst tell the judge I didnt trust them..etc etc..You have the photo evidence, and I would also get an affidavit from an approved BMW body shop saying they completely mis-matched the color.

My problem with giving the original shop another shot is not so much that they got the wrong paint code.. its that they let it go out of their shop like that...that tells me all I need to know about them..

Was thinking about giving them another chance too. Guess ill set an appointment tomorrow. Im just scared they will butcher something in the car for the long run.

You should let the body shop know that they're reputation is being harmed by this. They should repaint it for FREE, because they F+&*#d it up! I would just bring the bumper to them, don't leave ur car with them. I went to school for, and worked at body shops, white is probably the hardest to match, (red also), but this is just way off. I would have never given the car back to the customer like this. It's..just..wrong.. The painter was probably high on weed and didn't know what he was doing. From my experience working in body shops, hey it's a blue collar job, but not everyone has the talent for it.

No idea what to do. Others are saying go to the same one then people are saying dont.

Take the bumper off at ur house and just bring it to them, tell them paint it the right color. They are not gonna blend ur fenders and hood. They are just gonna paint ur bumper. I wouldn't trust them and bring them the whole car, just my bumper and tell them to fix it.

Search, Youtube it. You need basic hand tools and minimal experience bro. You own a M3, gotta learn ur car. It's just a bumper that needs repainting. Talk to the body shop politely and bring them ur bumper to get repainted. End story. Problem solved. I know you shouldn't have to, but in these circumstances, just do it and get it over with.

what if they say they need the whole car to compare the color? Is there a cam that I can put inside my car for the 2 days it might take them to paint the bumper? Or a audio recorder?

Not only should you try to avoid getting an attorney involved, but more importantly, no attorney worth his/her salt would want anything to do with this. Simply put, there is not enough money at stake.

I think let original shop retry...doesn't seem like much to lose if I'm understanding you correctly. Esp if you have to pay a hefty chunk of change for another shop to do it anyways. If 2nd try at original shop doesn't work out, then would just pay a different shop to do it.

Personally, at no point would I involve lawyers for something like this as the post above says. Just wouldn't be worth the hassle and you'd just be throwing away more money. Unless you are really set on making your point...

I'm not sure why you would think that.

Keep in mind we're talking about paint here. They didn't scratch or mar the car, didn't bend brackets - In fact, the bumper installation looks pretty perfect, everything lines up, etc..

It seems that the worst thing that will happen is that you get it back with paint that doesn't match again. So I don't think you have anything to worry about unless you're concerned with their quality of work, reputation, or have another reason for not trusting them (other than not matching the paint right).

And as a member a couple posts up said, an attorney is not going to take a case like this. Your best bet if they don't resolve this to your satisfaction is small claims court where no attorneys are allowed. And this is probably going to cost you more in time and effort than to just pay a reputable shop to paint the bumper.

You cant just leave the bumper. They will need to color match to the car if you want it to match. That color is way off. If they try to let it go like that just think what else would they let go without telling you.
Dont apply clear bra right after. The paint needs to cure for atleast 30 days. Your not even suppose to apply wax while it cures.

I would probably let them try it again. You really have nothing to loose except maybe time.

You take them the gas cover, they can match it to that.

This happens often, lets say when you get into a minor accident, and the bumper needs to be replaced and repainted, but you don't want to leave your car at the bodyshop, they order the bumper and repaint it matching it to the gas cover.
