Likewise. Definitely some fun drives around, both in the East Bay (around Mount Diablo, and between Livermore and San Jose) and on the peninsula (esp. 1 along the coast) . . .

I do regularly as I now have a DD for my work commute. I thought I'd save on gas but I think I'm breaking even since every time I drive the m for fun I'm straight up assaulting the gas pedal.

That is 100% the reason I own a M3. What else would you do with it? Drive it for.. not fun?

Somewhat confused.

its fun to drive but i dont take it out for pointless trips with no destination. thats why i never got into my motorcycles and sold them all. i do however go to the track to do this.

A few times a week. I live three minutes from work, so I'll usually detour through some country roads.

How do you decide what is a pointless trip and what is not?

I had that mindset when I got my first "nice" car. I ended up never driving it, and sold it, because I was always worried that I was "wasting" miles.

If I am considering a "not fun" trip where I will sit in traffic for hours or whatever I'll just take the bus.

pointless is when i am just going out to drive not to get anywhere. that is how i get in trouble on the street in both my car and bikes. sometimes i choose to drive my car to go do an errand or something i dont just drive in circles, other than at the track, for the hell of it. if i want to go fast and have fun i save that for the track, the limits are 10x that of the street and once i went had no desire to try and be a hooligan on the street. that is pointless. playing boy racer around town isnt fun because your leaving so much on the table.

Around here there are hundreds of miles of wide open roads which have close to zero vehicular traffic. I don't advocate speeding around town but backroads driving is for me the reason to own this car.

Track is fun and all but it is always a planned event which I have only so much tolerance for and can do so often.

yep to each there own. i must be getting old. dont enjoy getting crazy on the street even on back roads much. thats how i started out in this car and found better solution. i do however like to take certain entrance ramps at 2x+ the posted speed at times.

Rather than do "pointless trips", I take the very long way to many destinations on the weekends when need be. For example, when I need my cup o' starbucks, I take a nice twisty mountain road and some fast speed highways to a "nice" starbucks.

Two birds with one stone!

My Sunday morning Starbucks run (2 miles away) usually takes an hour and half.

Which reminds me, I really don't like the cupholders.

AMEN.

And while Car Meets are fun sometimes, the main reason I go is to drive to them and back I can only stand around chatting about a car I want to be driving for so long...
