Think I am goin to build a fox body stang

After years of thinking and debating Ive decided that I am going to begin the hunt for a fox body mustang (87-93) to build

want to put a 351 windsor in it set it up for track (1/4 mile) but still streetable.

preferably an 87-88 so that I can get historic plates on it...

craigslist has tons of them problem is people selling POS's for tons of money

waiting to find a good deal on one worth getting

who has built a drag car ?

I have built a few foxbodies. They car fun cars and you can buy any part for them. They have the best aftermarket support of any car ever made. The parts do tend to add up quick as they do break when tracked often.

Just know people who sell them lie about everything on their foxbody. To how much horsepower, and how fast it is.

Last thing you will never get anything close to what you out into it.

But they are great project cars and a blast to drive.

yeah when you read the ads some people are entertaining... i am lucky cause I have a friend who has built tons of them and knows the ins and outs of them. so as far as negotiating picking one up and catching lies i am good there

You should probably drop a GM engine in it though if you want a great drag car. LS based motor. A LS1 is inexpensive and bulletproof

yeah I know but it actually has quite alot of work done to it with a few minor problems so for this season I believe I will just fix the bugs and run it as is.

next season may convert to carb. I would like to stick with the 302 block to keep the car full functioning and not messy

Their aftermarket support is great but I wouldn't go that far

Just off the top of my head the 240SX. There's countless companies making parts and having services to build the factory KA motor or swap in the SR20 (OEM engine for the 240 everywhere except the US), other Japanese motors like the JZ series, RB series, VH, VQ, 7M, 1UZ, 13B, and even the American LS series. For every motor I listed, people make mounts, wiring harnesses, conversion lines, brackets, etc. Then there's suspension. Again, a ton of companies make every possible part for the car's multi-link front and rear suspension from adjustable arms, solid/poly bushings, etc. And companies also make conversion parts so you can swap in different parts from other vehicles like subframe swaps, 300zx 5 lug hubs, skyline brakes, etc. Then for the exterior there's a ton of makers of bumpers, side skirts, spoilers, fenders, hoods. And you can even buy conversion fenders, hoods, and trunks so you can do exterior conversions too like interchanging different model 240 headlights, G35/350Z and skyline front and rear conversions. I'm probably missing some stuff but this is just while I'm in class.

Not even close. Mustangs have several popular magazines devoted to just modifying them. You can buy anything for a foxbody mustang even brand new restoration parts. Can you buy a brand new door panel for a 240 ? They have bolt in ls1's one kits, V10's, turbo four cyclinders, and more. They make suspensions for any type of racing. Anything you can buy for a 240sx they have made for mustangs for over 15 years.

A 240 doesn't even compete with civics as far as aftermarket support. It will never be able to compete with cars that are way more abundant.

If your in class it must be a generation thing but the foxbody mustang is the most supported car ever made.

yeah idk the guy went for the 90/10 drag look without doing it with suspension.

i am workin on the rim size.

for now just want to get it running mint, then will take care of cosmetics such as rims, gauges, etc;

Check suspension and rear end. Torque Boxes are the first thing to go. Also a freshened up rear end would be great too. The LSD, gears, and axels take a lot of abuse.

yeah.. well that stuff is all recent because of the 5 lug swap

torque boxes are still good

I'd much rather have the fox mustang than a mere 240.

Ford made those cars practically bullet proof. I'm considering a next gen mustang svt cobra for my next car or the c7.
