Purchasing new M3
Hey guys,
I got a pretty good offer on my current 2006 C2. A friend of mine offered to give me $40,000 cash for my car. Do you guys think I should sell him the car and order a new 2013 M3 or should I hold on to the car until the new M4 comes out? I know its the last V8 and all that but do you think its worth it to buy the car at this point in its production life? Any input would be much appreciated. Regards, |

You should experience the V8 M3. I assume you mean C2 911? The 6 cylinder M3 will be here for a while so down the road... Enjoy the last of what I believe is the most refined M motors.

I feel like almost every car has issues that are eventually corrected in subsequent model years. I personally wouldn't want to pick up the first couple years of production of the new M4, so now you're looking at having to wait several years. I say get the M3 now and then a few years down the road you can think about switching into the M4 (if it ends up being good!).

You guys are biased haha
I was able to test drive an M3 at the dealer but I wasn't comfortable pushing it because we were in traffic. Also, I did not want to rag on the car too much with my salesman. I know its faster than my current C2. Looks like i'll be heading back for a round 2 test drive. Thanks fellas. |

Why buy new? Get a used 2008 or 2009 m3 for a relatively low price. Enjoy it for a couple of years, and if you decide to get the new M3/M4 by that time you can sell your used M3 without suffering a big financial penalty.

I think that $40K is a fair offer. I think you should get the latest M3 with the V8 (perhaps a real good used one one where you can make a great deal right now at a dealership), if you do that then at least you have the following advantages ...
A) you experienced a longer arrangement with an M3 V8 other then test driving the car. and B) once the M4 is out and a year or so on the road and you learned if there are any issues or recalls ... then test drive the new M4 and decide on Keep the M3 V8 or switch to a M4 6 with turbo ... My two cents (Canadian ) ... good luck !BTW ... I so agree with jdogg2000 ... I would never pick up a first production year again from BMW I did on the sDrive Z4 35i 2009 and got burned badly by both rear wheels cracking on me during a cross country drive (Ontario to California and back). It was very disappointing the way BMW handled that issue on the 296 wheels on that Z4 (wheels cracked on many other Z4's and now have been redesigned stronger). So stay clear of first production year. My Z4 disappointment got me back into the M3 ... lets not talk about how many dollars I wasted on e46 to a e89 and back to e92.

And if it is not a financial issue I would say take piece of mind and get new with full warranty.

Thanks for the advice pal. I'm happy with the offer I got as well. The dealership only offered me $34k for my 911. Its in mint condition and only 16,000 miles. Regards. |

You can search your question here or web wide ... if you read the attached it would be late 2014 in Europe or Jan 2015 at the Detroit Auto show and then in showrooms Spring 2015 ... would be my best guess

I am going to disagree with you on the 1st year production cars. My wife's 2002 MINI Cooper S is one of the earliest productions in the US and not once we had a major problems with it.... After all these years it is still in our garage and she has no intentions of selling it. My E92 335 was also a Sep 2006 production and I also had no issues with it including no HPFP failures & etc..... The car was solid and I truly enjoyed it. Both the MINI and the E92 had recalls but they were all handled by BMW while the cars were in for service I really think your wheel cracking and how BMWUSA and BMW Canada handled isn't something common that happens too often. I will be ordering one of the 1st M4's when they become available. ![]()
