Pulls harder than the Cayman
Great sound of the engine
More tech features standard or less money than P.
Love the ability to stream music via bluetooth, pain in the butt having to plug my phone in in the Cayman
More space for passengers and luggage.
More stealthy
No maintenance costs for 4 years (except for tires)
Much less expensive than the Cayman unless you're really stingy with options

In favor of Cayman S
Handles better
Better balanced
Better overall fit and finish
More exotic looking, draws more attention (can be a + and a -)
Better club events like DE, back country drives and Autox
Better transmission for track, PDK in sport+ holds every gear till redline
Better fuel economy (not even close), especially regarding range, M3 wouldn't be as bad if it had a bigger fuel tank, seems like I'm always filling it up.
It's a Porsche!
Good comparison... the only thing is he is considering the new Cayman which i would expect would improve on the current one in almost every way (similar to the new 911). I guess that means take what you said about the current Cayman S and add 15%

Because no body drove the new Cayman yet.
No one know how it will compare.
Like it says in the title, he's talking about the new Cayman and like the old Cayman the new one is parcticly the same car as the boxster but with a hard top so if you want to know how it will compare, check that:

True, that would probably be the reason why I would'nt buy one, I need more straight line performance then what it offers!

Edit: If the next Cayman R is lighter and has around 350hp, I think it could be fast enough for my taste, the 2013 Boxster S already trap 111mph with just 315hp!

thanks for the link, good video. I've got a little over a year before I have to decide whether to buy my Cayman off lease, lease a 911 or new Cayman (some sales tax advantages to re-leasing with Porsche) or buy something else.

What a nice problem you got there, I'd say get rid of both the Porsche and the M3 and get the new 911 turbo!

I might as well, except that the Cayman has very poor leg room for the back seats.

So....if you can live with a car that has two seats, less luggage space and is 0.5 seconds slower to 60mph, then Cayman all the way. if you can not, get the M3.
I think the 911, Aston and Cayman are prob the 3 best looking coupes on the market. They all have some features that are reminiscent of one another.

OP - Id go with the cayman over the m3 so long as the space or lack thereof in the cayman is ok for you. You WILL NOT find a better driver's car than a cayman at any price point nor handling. It has it all so long as space isnt a main point of concern.

How much power can the 2009 cayman make with only bolt ons? If it can get 400hp without forced induction (80 more than the stock 320) it should easily out perform the e92 m3 on the track.

You kidding, right? You won't by any means gain 80hp unless by forced induction. It's a small H6 engine, only 3.4 litres. No way a few bolt-ons will get you to 400 hp.

Depends on what you want. If you care for comfort, luxury, space, and practicality, get the M3. If not, get the Cayman if you want. Personally I don't like Porsche at all. Any of them. A bunch of overpriced Volkswagens. Yeah, Porsche makes good cars, but they're not even remotely good enough to justify the outrageous price, both the base price and the cost of options.

Think about it this way. For the price of a brand new Cayman S (without even any overpriced options), you can get a slightly used GT-R or C6 Z06 or Camaro ZL1 or even Boss 302 Mustang. Now THAT is performance. Get one of these cars and you'll be playing with the big boys in ferraris and lambos on the track. Or you blow off your money on that Cayman, and get to enjoy the precise steering feel and balanced chassis up until the moment you're forced to give the point by to a teenage kid who totally smokes you in a 10 year old civic or evo that probably cost a fifth of the money you paid for the cayman.

Not a 'few' but I meant staying NA instead of forced induction. Sasha Anis' 350z increased by approx 160HP while staying NA with the VQ35DE.

what sasha anis did with that engine was miraculous, but that was a result of unlimited time and budget, not to mention the engine was a strict racing application. Such a project will be too expensive, and too unreliable for a road going car.

There's a 4.2L cayman out there built by jake raby. I believe final stages of development are almost done.

cayman is genreally slower than the m3 on all but the tightest tracks. why go backwards. if teh cayman had 400+hp as someone suggested the i would be all over it.
