Haven't heard of longevity issues with forced induction BMW or Audi engines. Direct injection has caused problems, but that's unrelated to FI.

After driving a turbo BMW and supercharged Audi, there's no way I'm going back to NA! FI is more fun on public roads, and I don't go to the racetrack.
Generally speaking NA engines outlast FI engines..the reason is the internals on an FI engine wear more quickly because they are operating under many times atmospheric pressure.

That's why FI engines are even more impressive engineering than NA, not less impressive!

The S65 v8 and the s85 v10 are the two best engines bmw has ever produced in terms of technology, innovation and torque/power delivery. Especially the 65 which has THE flattest and most broad torque curve I have ever seen

Simply a well-engineered masterpiece with specs to pull out 104hp/litre naturally aspirated which is absolutely amazing.

The engines in the M cars now are found in all the M's in the line up right now practically and are derivatives of the regular 4.4l v8 turbo in non-m cars.

The technology is just so lacking compared to when they did naturally aspirated they had to really push the envelope to get more power out of the engine. It made the engine high strung which most of us love.

Even the headers-I have never seen a stock OEM car come with that good of quality of headers with no room for improvement. Also the absolutely brilliantly designed air-intake (not on the pics obviously) but it is a true engineering marvel.

I just think there will never be another M car that had the high level of technology precision, innovation or cutting edge racing tech

Turbo's make power so easily that you need limited tech. Not to say the M engines are not great but they did not even make wards ten best this year. The s85 and s65 won it 4 years in a row.

Anyway, brilliant engine, makes brilliant noise and performs better than anything short of a ferrari or supercar territory
Amen brotha! I hear ya! I loved hearing those engines fire up. It was like music to my ears. I wish BMW would of kept NA engines for the M cars.

Anyone have these in high res? As in... super high res?

The departure of these is really the death of M for me. I have zero desire for any of their new turbo products.

+1

A high strung NA motor will definitely see more wear than a motor like Audi's 2.0T because of the higher stress levels (high revving, for example). Not every motor is running 20+ lbs of boost. Forced induction on it's own =/= shorter life.

My 2,0l fsi eats more oil than my m3... The only oil it doesn't eat as bad is the pennzoil ultra euro... It goes beyond 7k rpm and you have to rev it to get power as well

I still prefer na but love turbo tech that goes into making the bearings and blades

I've have built a few of these and mine 2.0 FSI had a GT30. The reason these motors burn so much oil is the piston rings get bridle and you get blow bye but can't see it due to the higher rpm's with fully synthetic oils

An s2k pumped out 120hp per liter back in 1999. Lol.

Those headers look awesome. The new motors in m cars will be different yes but you cant deny they will be just as brilliant.

All the little kiddies just want any old inline six with some turbos. Ooooo how special.

Yes! Make the car lighter and stick in a 4.4L S65. Heaven!

Matter of fact it is time for BMW to make a track focused NA M3/M4 and daily driver FI M3/M4. A la...the Boss302/GT500 and GT3/Turbo, etc.
