Don't do it! My friend did his m3 with smoked tail lights and got rear ended/totaled the insurance company of the party denied the claim because smoked tail lights "are hazardous and reduce brake light visibility" end of story he has a totaled m3 with no coverage

Don't care for it myself, but if must be done...Need to ensure its light enough to only notice the diff, not murder them out. My 2 cents worth...

If you're going to do it. The only proper way is to have it sprayed by a body shop.
They take clear coat with a drop of black in it and layer it on until the desired darkness is achieved.

Agreed. My neighbor just had his 335 tails sprayed on a black car. Looks decent, but the other poster is right. You get rear-ended and insurance wont cover it. She would be SOL.

E90 smoked tail lights
I agree with the above comments. I took mine to a professional and I get a lot of compliments but now that it's close to that time to sell my car, one of the main requirements is putting my tail lights back to stock.
