Programming options for setting OBD Sensor Status to "Ready"

Hi all,

I've done our some searching of our forum and I am always impressed by the wealth of knowledge our members and vendors have when it comes to just about any topic. I am hoping to pick our collect brains about something I am trying to get figured out during the next 3 months before my car is required to go through Oregon DEQ.

My setup:

- Dinan Race Software (Rev 7 just re-flahsed this week at BMW of Portland)
- AA "race" mid-pipe
- AA exhaust
- AA underdrive pulley and HF air filter

My challenge...OBD Sensor Status for "Catalyst" and "O2 Sensor" are currently showing "UnReady" when I roll through the DEQ self-service station in Oregon. I have talked to Dinan and they say that is to be expected (I expected it myself as well) and I have talked to a few tuners about setting the two status to "Ready" as a tuning option.

My question to the group (if everyone feels comfortable chipping in knowledge) is:

1. Does anyone have experience with any tuners setting the two indicators to "Ready."
2. Are there other options (e.g. code scanner and re-setting/setting) that I should be aware of?

Insights are greatly appreciated.

Although this can be done, it is completely illegal and that's why most tuners will not do it.

Thanks for the insight. I will look at options to make it work legally (eg stock mid pipe). Also, a set of HFCs will not be enough to get the indicators to set status as "Ready", correct?

Correct. Although many will take time to set off a CEL, it will happen.

I have the AA stubbies. Once you get the stock primary cats welded to the stubbies it's a quick and painless swap from HFCs (in my case vs your straight tubes) to stock cats...pass emissions testing and then swap out the stubbies and re-install the HFCs

I believe the BMS DP Fix should simulate OBD II readiness? As this device sits between the secondary O2 sensors and alters the signal given to the DME.

I'm not sure how it would interact with the Dinan tune though as I am assuming the tune inhibits emissions related check engine lights. Would the Dinan tune with the OEM xpipe allow for OBD II readiness?

For states that only require an OBD test, if a tune was made the allowed OBD readiness regardless of the actual status (i.e. catless or high flow cats) which is illegal it would allow you to have whatever mods on your car and when they plug into your car, it would show everything is ok when it really is not.

My car passes every test but one. And I think you can pass with one not ready monitor

Sniffer might be a different story.

My challenge right now is that I have two codes set to "not ready." Such is life, I am looking at options and have 3 months to figure something out.
