I want BBK ($3k!), side gills ($150), front lip (anywhere from $700-2000), that fancy trunk ($2k?), some wide rear tires ($800-900), some cool pedals ($300), CB exhuast ($1300), angel eyes ($300), Dinan suspension ($1800) so that totals it up to almost another $9k. You take a car that was like $45k used, plus the mods I have now ($16k), plus another 9 for what i want and it comes to $24k, so that could have put me at like $70k!!!! Didn't R35 cost that much new, when they came out?? A used Gallardo is about that much! Prob one of the early 997 TT's are about that much....
And the bottom line is that even with all these mods, I still wouldn't be able to get 10c on the $. And with the F30 m3 coming out the price on our cars will drop another 10%... with all the miles i rack on mine, god, i'd be lucky to get $40k for when all is said and done....

this sucks...
I have spent maybe $9,000 on top of the purchase of the car. I have pretty much phased out of modding cars as I get older. I am only in my 30s but I reached as high as you can go with the mod bug in 2004-2005 when I was in numerous car magazines, tv preview, judge, and winning at car shows. Now I have other hobbies such as exotic weaponry, fiber night optics, etc.. Stuff that costs way above toys for this M3. Modding this car or any car kinda bores me now. Owning a home and several nice vehicles also helps.

I agree with Philip, mod'ing has introduced me to a group of people that all share my same passion for Cars and the M3.

I really enjoy seeing how other's have mod'ed their Cars. It's an expression of personality.

I mod because I enjoy it and how my M3 responds on the track.

It is an addiction! An expensive one.

Agree with most here...done to inject a little personal individuality to it. Personally, I don't worry about recouping the cash or resale in the future. Done to how I want her to be now.

Thanks guys, you made me feel better....
Yea, I am not sure what is this mpg everyone is talking about....

I forgot to add track time! Since i've been to germany, i've been going to Nurburgring quite a lot, and that is like 22 euro($35) a lap (when you buy in bulk)... track session at the Spa? 250euro's ($400)... so on. Plus frequent oil changes, brakes, tires...

All that money spent can be aimed towards seeing the world, going to Africa, Asia, South America... gosh. I mean, I still travel around europe, but not far, and not for too long...

sorry for venting... was just curious how everyone else felt like...

Honestly who gives a shit?!? You only live once, you could be gone tomorrow, and you will never understand until you do it. I have as much in my car as the car, but there is no car like it. Plus my performance is of the cars you mentioned and in some cases better. I have owned all those cars and I always go back to the M 3, bottom line is I have a connection with this car and I have personalized it to the point of perfection IMO. I would not change it for the world, never have regrets just make more money!!!?,

Like everyone on here has stated, modding is just an expensive hobby. I used to think that I was crazy and wasting money from spending so much on mods but then I realized that there is nothing wrong with spending money on things for your own personal enjoyment as long as you don't over spend. Everyone does it. For example, you could buy an fully loaded M3 from the money my wife spends on handbags and shoes or a used 458 from the money my boss uses to decorate her house.

I've dumped many thousands in mods on various cars over the year, and at the end of the day didn't really make my rides that much more enjoyable, since I ended selling them anyway. Sure they were much faster, and louder, and different looking, etc, etc. But in hindsight it was not worth it.

So I guess I'm in the minority to say that I'm done with this game, and prefer spending the cash on a nice vacation with my family, or save the money to buy a better ride next time around, rather than turning my cars into something they were not designed to be (I don't have the urge right now, still very happy with the M3.)

Not trying to judge anyone, I know the feeling. I guess I'm a recovering modder

Thanks, you just got me depressed

I just started modding my car a couple months ago, after turning it into a weekend car after a couple years of DD, and I am just about at $15k spend on mods w/installation. Damn, man I thought I was under $8k in mods until I added up all the costs. I still have tons of parts uninstalled sitting in my garage waiting for the right time.

I really hoped to get into a 997 gt3 within the next few years. I better stop here.

like phil said earlier in the thread, yea i can buy a better car with my mod money, but then itll be just stock. for me, id rather have a less expensive car and mod the hell out of it to call it my own creation, a creation that not alot of people can easily replicate.

Ahhh... quid pro quo.

When you leave work every day, can you stop a couple of blocks away from the dealership and remove the stickers, then put them back on when you approach work the next morning?

Yes !!!! No matter what you own, once you have been bitten by the mod bug, there is no end to this. The only question is how much you might spend.

While I haven't modded my M3 to any significant amount (yet), if I total up money spent on mods on all the cars I have owned, it totals over $100k.
