Why did you leave the M3?

Just curious here to see what makes folks want to leave their M3 and move on to a different car, and which car was that?

Just looking to try something new? Wanted something faster? Nicer?

I missed having low end torque. Much more usable around town at low speeds. Rare in town I can even stretch the e92. Hoping the new M3 has a nice low end cause its a great DD.

Note previous cars: CLK63AMG, GT500, Viper, GT-R, ZR1, CGT, FGT

Makes me wonder with such stable, why did you even dabble with the M3?
Understand your point on the torque though - the turbo model ought to definitely balance that out, and the torque curve should be much different than the current V8.

Because I was sold on the DCT transmission and I have always loved BMW. None of this should be confused as "regret." Loved owning the car. Especially with extended fox red leather.

Agreed, the only reason I'm eyeing something else is because of the usable torque--I hate having to wring the neck of my car to get to the balls of it. Love the car though.. And no, I don't want to put a blower on it.

I'm leaving for the lack of torque, and the lack of design change in the interior. I have enjoyed owning my M3, but the interior looks similar to my buddy's 03 M3, which sucks, and the torque is killing me. I have owned a GT-R (left because school cost too much and the GT-R had to go), Supra TT (lost in a divorce), and several big block muscle cars. I love the exterior of the M and the redline is amazing, but when you can't stretch the legs, the torque factor kills it. It also wasn't worth it to me to put a blower on the car. I'm not sure what my next purchase will be, but it'll have torque.

Hey I like the sig, now lets see that garage!

For the thread question...torque is overrated, I love the high revving engine =) Euro-vtech!

OP - which way are you leaning? Vette or M? You've owned a 335 and older vette...so you've got a flavour for what both will be like!

Also love the car but am looking to let my E92 M3 Coupe go and am looking at either the M4 once it's available or another vehicle with sleeker look and more torque!

That my friend, is still TBD. I keep going back and forth but I think I may be leaning towards the Z06 given the raw performance, but I'll be driving both again prior to making my decision. The C6Z prices are about to drop with the upcoming announcement of the C7... the only drawback to that car is the valve-drop issue, but I'm still educating myself more into it.

I love the M as well... the overall refinement, looks, the DCT. The 335 was a blast to drive, and easy to drive fast. Surprising how the lack of torque seems to be the biggest complaint. Most of my driving is in-town, where the torque would definitely be useful.

Probably be picking one up late Q1/early Q2... Wait to see how the market prices of the Zs react to the C7, and which one gives me the biggest grin and enjoyment. I won't be hitting the track until March anyways, 6 times all year give or take.

I too was shocked how little torque the M3 has..but not that I have gotten use to winding the motor up..its not that big a deal..more motivation to stay alert and be in the right gear

loved all my M3's, especially my E92, but i had a few Z06's as my dailys and a ZR-1 as my weekend car and missed out on all the low end power...the M3 was a beautiful car but moved on to a CTS-V coupe with a full intake, upper pulley, and dyno tune...for the bargain price of 1,200 bucks the car now makes around 530 rwhp and it running solid 11.4x's-11.5x's...its a much bigger and heavier car then the M3 and you feel the weight but the brakes are superb and the steering feel is fantastic...i would say the interior qualities are close, but the recaros in the V are great..exterior looks are subjective..i honestly prefer my E92 a little more in that category, but the V gets a lot more attention, if thats your thing..its not really mine....but i can tell you at 70 mph in 2nd gear i can light the tires up like im sitting still..the power is very impressive

I loved my M3 but tracked it for 5 seasons and wanted to try something different. As an all around car I'm not sure it can be beaten. I am enjoying my GT3RS and it is more engaging, but it has almost zero practicality so it is more of a pure toy.

Very impressive for the amount spent, been telling a friend of mine to go the same rought with his CTSV but he wants a Ford GT500. I personally would keep the CTSV.

uh with that stable why would you even sell the M3. obviously you can afford to keep it around and drive one of the others if you wanted more torque

fyi the torque thing about town and daily driving is the dumbest thing I ever heard. or keep hearing. the M3 works fine in town and daily driven.

Why is it dumb? Drive a car with torque, it feels different. This is all subjective, and some people may prefer that feel. It's all opinion. Nobody is wrong.

Compared to other cars like a Z06 or C63, its guttless in torque. Around town is where I found my M3 to be anemic in torque. You have to really wind it out to feel the power.

Its not really "dumb" if you consider some want to just step on the gas and have the car move..regardless of what gear they are in..

In this regard the M3 falls flat..I dont see that as being a great daily driver..a great car..yes...but requires constant driver input
