In Singapore, an E92 DCT will cost approx. US$300,592.
Unbelievable!! Where does the premium amount from? Is the inflated price due to exchange rates, government tax, or is it due to the low volume of luxury cars imported?

Basically, it's all tax. Pay to play on a tiny island with limited road space, but there's Malaysia on its doorstep for them to drive to their hearts' content.

Not complaining here; took over a lease with only 1600 out of pocket for license, transfer fee, and what owner wanted. I'm paying 661 a month including tax. Made out like a bandit.

+1 modding is more expensive in Canada, shipping and customs are almost half the price of the actual part

Most dealers will ship free within the US. I normally have it shipped to the border and get it myself. On large, expensive items you can save hundreds.

A new M3 costs around 210-220k in Turkey.
Our taxation is around %200

lol at paying 34% taxes....
If you're in the top two brackets in California, you're paying either a hair above or a bit below 50%, respectively, when factoring in Federal/State/Local taxes...

Totally agree. As a Canadian living in the US for school, I'd take Canada any day.

Taxes aren't any less, living costs are higher, interest rates are higher, and what do they have to show for it? At least we get free health care out of the deal.

As for the extra 8% on the cars, that'll be zero within a couple of years once Canada and the EU sign their free trade agreement.

Then I found out the rest of the world pay anywhere from $100-200k USD after a conversion of course.

Take for example in Taiwan which is right next to china, this car probably costs $150k there due to tariffs. Considering the average 4yr college student makes only $1K US dollar a month, it seems impossible to obtain one without rich parents.

However, then I discovered people in some countries don't pay exorbitant taxes like we do in the US especially California. I paid nearly 34% in income taxes last year. But these people only pay maybe 15-20% and their cost of living is lower since food is cheap. $2 USD can really fill you up on the streets of Bangkok.

So which would you rather have it? High taxes, food and living costs with cheaper car prices or low taxes, food and living costs with near-exotic car prices ?
The food isn't necessarily cheaper in most of their major cities if you consider the money they make. Then there is different tax policies too. You might think they pay less income tax but they have other taxes we don't have here in North America. USA is the cheapest places to buy cars compare to almost everywhere around the world.

Interesting thread, I learned a lot about international M3 pricing and taxation policy.

While the USA isn't perfect, if I lived elsewhere, I wouldn't be able to support my M3 track habit AND send our kids to College.

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays Everyone!

Since _many_ Canadians come here when their medical conditions get serious and they need help fast, it seems that "free" = both slow and unsophisticated.

Still, Canada is not so bad . . .

Not that I am a fan, but why didn't BMW send the X1 here until 3 years later? US consumers are very price sensitive and BMW was making a lot more selling X1s elsewhere. We can be because we have almost no import tariffs to increase the price of imported goods.

Wow that's the lowest rates I've ever seen. In Canada the monthly payments are 2-3x that.

I wonder if it's due to some different residual calculation, or do these cars depreciate less in the US.

Interest rates are way different in the US. Lease rates on M cars in Canada are way higher, plus the price being higher will lead to the payments being higher.

I would not say many cause only the wealthy can afford to go to the US, but for any serious there is no waiting.

You would think that BMW or other manufactures would attempt to control these monopoly imports and the premiums. Guess not
