BMW releases Update UPD01006 - iphone 5 and iOS 6 support

I installed the above on my CIC retrofit and wife's F25 X3. Haven't looked at the functionality in detail. Just posting to alert members ...

The updated features are:

Software update (MX-3.5.4, TX-3.5.6)

Office: Improved support for email messages. Improved display of text-message sender on iPhone devices with iOS6.
Telephone: Improved USB connection for iPhone devices with iOS 5. Improved connectivity of certain devices. For certain devices, better display and stability during calls. Improved Bluetooth connection with HTC devices. Improved sorting of the phone book in Android devices in Japan.
Multimedia: Improved display of additional album and track information. Improved connection and control in Bluetooth audio devices.
Improved functionality of TeleService, BMW Online and Internet for iPhone devices with iOS 5.

I think it's only for cars equipped with Combox.

Just downloaded it, going to load in a few minutes.

Looks like my car got two Christmas presents this year, 2013 Maps and Combox BT Update!

I can't get this to work and I've tried like 6 times now. I'm going to pull my hair out and I have a shaved head, so that won't be pretty.

Mr. Benvo: would you kindly fly over in your sleigh and update the software? I will make you a Dewars Scotch and eggnog.

What am I doing wrong? I have combox, 6FL, 6NR, etc.

I tried plugging in the USB to both the port in the glovebox and the armrest/console, both with car on and off. I even tried removing the files from the root folder and tried on two different flash drives.
WTF!?

^^ Had this issue with my 2011 but had attributed it to being one of the first combox equipped cars (Sept 2010 build). Eventually the dealer updated my software to get the USB update to work.

Make sure the "jump drive" has nothing but the update on it............Phil

Tried that too - first time it had other stuff, so I switched to another "blank" drive, but to no avail.

So to confirm, it's the port on the console/armrest, correct? Can anyone confirm what files need to be on the drive? Should they all be in a folder (xml and bin files) or "loose" on the flash drive (no folder, all files)?

I work for one of the largest tech companies in the world and I feel like I'm Amish right now.

Yes, use the USB port in the center console...

Never did get an answer as to what the problem was but I jumped though all the hoops just like Primo is doing. Eventually I was given a full software update to get the USB update to work.

Some time recognising and reading the drive can take about a minute or so. Wait patiently, and then click on the update software ... just a thought.

Just performed my update. It did nothing to the Multimedia portion but updated the Telephone portion.

Guys, BMW uploaded the file in a ".tar" format instead of ".bin" like all of their other updates. If you update the file from their site, you have to change the extension from .tar to .bin and the car will acknowledge it.

I don't see a .tar extension for this latest update. It's .bin like previous updates.

Same here....this is a very simple process. Not sure why some are having problems.

I had no issues performing the upgrade from the downloaded file. I did not need to change the file extension.

The only thing with the update for me is that it only updated the TX file and left the MX file alone.

My question to others is did your MX portion change with the update?
