you should have it put on the end of some brass knuckles so when someone makes fun of it you can stamp their forehead with ///M3

Cool Gift ...

On my 1st wedding anniversary my wife purchased a $385- ROLEX (Day of the Week and Date Display) ... we had our first fight when she gave it to me ... you might ask why ... well at that time we had no car and a weeks supply of all groceries set us back ... $8- for three bags of groceries. Mind you my salary way back then (50 years ago) was just below $3,000/year

I wear my ROLEX every day ... had it appraised last in Vegas in 2010 was told it would sell for $14,500-

A new Mercedes SL 450 at tat time was $9,500- Goes to show you what our dollar was worth then and now

Cost of 50g of gold when OP made post... approx. $1930
Cost of 50g of gold today... approx. $2730

Not a bad investment

Nice story Rolf!! I doubt high end watches will continue to appreciate the way they have (Swiss Franc can only go so high?!?!), but I hope some day my kids will appreciate my watches when I hand them down.
