hey guys, I'm at the point where I need to take my console apart. Any tips on what I need to do to pop it out with minimum effort or scratches?
I noticed you did the shift boot first. What did you use? A flathead with a soft cloth on the end to cushion the prying motion? thanks.

I'm also curious about the F10 controller working in an LCI E9X...
I was in a F10 535i Loaner car on 8/9/12 and the "knob action" on the controller felt so much better quality than the controller in my 2011.5 E90 M3. I wonder if it is the same with regard to talking to the car?

It looks like, the best way is to remove the console via the shift knob section first?
I think i'll follow the ZHP install steps pictures 1 and 2 here... http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312715 My question after untugging the shift boot leather, do I just pull the console up, or is there a plastic tab I need to push in?

I'm getting ready to fit the controller for a test, will let you know in the next few days.
I have a 04/08 build date, so I assume I've received the updated software. The controller I'm using is 65829231116. According to past posts, the majority of folks who has success in this has at least a 03/08 build date (or has updated software) and has controller -309, which explains why Tischer shows -048 on the order sheet and customers received -309 or other updated part numbers. I was able to do this successfully. All functions work. To confirm, I have controller 116 and I have an 04/08 build. My car, to my knowledge, never had a software update.
IMO, the CIC controllers are above and beyond easier to use than the old CCC knob. There's less feedback on each click/turn of the knob, so you can actually work faster. The CCC software was already slow, but I realized the high tension feedback of the CCC knob also contributed to the clunkiness/slowness of the system. With the CIC knob, you won't "over scroll" your options, and even if you do, it's a smoother and quick scroll back. I also gained more shortcut functions. Aside fromt he extra shortcut buttons on the controller, I use to have my * button on the wheel access my phonebook. Now with the Tel shortcut on the controller, my * button is now my shortcut for air vents. IMO, BMW should have provided CIC controller (be it with old CCC or CIC software) from the start. This improves idrive function by a lot (if you use the idrive alot). The alternative is to learn the voice commands.

That trim removal kit would make life easier if you're doing that Euro fog switch. I didn't have it, and it was a major PITA to remove the trim on the dash with a flathead/soft cloth method. Most of the time, I was using my fingers and hands to gentely pry that piece off.

I am going in to get an engine software update (240E). I have already done this swap with no issues on my April 08 build car. Should I swap in the old CCC controller before the update? Or is engine software update irrelevant?

My thanks to all who contributed to this thread and others, have just fitted CIC iDrive controller (ending 309 2) to my 2008 320D E90 Edition M Sport (May 2008) CCC Nav Pro system.
NO problem with controller full functionality from start with no software update or mods. I needed to changed console cover too, all without a hitch. Again thanks. Gary |

I am sure that's not through the dealer. I tried this back in 2009 and tried dealer integration and didn't work. Someone like Mike Benvo can do the integration without removing the controller.
