Do I put my winters on now?? black a7s with dunlop 3ds

I feel like the tire will perform much better in the cold then the PSS even if it doesn't snow? also itll b like 34 and rain so i feel like their better/safer to drive iwth... any issues with running them if it doesn't snow at all this winter??

I'm located in new england and have had my snows on for almost two weeks. They perform very well in colder temps and its really about keeping the summer rims clean and protected.

Not at all, I am actually in a debate with a dip shut about winter tires and summer tires. You should keep the winters on, temps below 45F will leave the PSS useless. They harden due to the cold weather and become unsafe. The winter tire is the opposite, above 45F and they are useless and wear quickly becoming greasy like and zero traction because they are made of a softer compound designed to resist hardening from the cold weather. Safe bet is to stick with the winters until the sun and warmth come back.

I am in Germany and have been running a winter for a month now, we just had a few good winter storms come through and I am grateful I have the winters on.

When my summer tires are corded like in the attached picture. I had to put the snow wheels on a couple of weeks ago because of this.

Normally, I wait as long as possible and put them on right before the first snow that was likely to stick around for more than a day -- which would be tomorrow morning here in NH. I put the snow wheels on my wife's car in late November.

Same here, last possible day (generally the night of the first serious storm.)

Had them mounted 3 weeks back. Hopefully it won't be useless as last winter when we didn't get any significant amount of snowfall in NJ.

Germany makes it easy by retaining the ability to ticket you for not having winters on under certain conditions, while other EU countries will automatically ticket for not having winters on, period.

When I lived in Germany, I just stored the car and kept the toxic salt off of the car completely.

The Dunlop 3ds are pretty legit i really dont bring my car out if its crappy weather, but have got caught twice in bad weather with them, I also live in Germany, yesterday i ran a couple guys to Frankfurt airport (160 miles from me) in the icy and snowy weather and the tires did great..it warmed up enough to turn to rain on the way home and i was running about 130 mph the whole time without any problems or breaking traction...from my experience they are great tires, but my ///M is also garaged once the snow really comes down

This. The key is that they're winter tires and not just snow tires. You still get a significant benefit by running them in cold, dry conditions. The tread compound remains soft at cold temps and continues to grip the road. Performance summer tires in cold temperatures become like hard plastic rollers. With a performance winter tire like the Dunlops, you're getting better traction than Pilot Super Sports even in the dry as long as it's cold outside. I generally put my winters on right before Thanksgiving, when it's consistently 45° or cooler.

Knowing this, it amuses me to see SUVs running around on big aftermarket wheels and summer tires during the winter. Even when the road is dry, but the temperature is 35°, they're like an elephant on roller skates. And if it snows or gets slushy, forget about it. 4wd won't help your 5500lb pig stop or turn when you're running on the wrong tires in winter conditions.

On the other hand, when I see a car around town with winter tires on this time of year, I think, "There's a person who knows what they're doing."

Another good bit of advice is to run 235/40 square. I know it sounds crazy but for heavy snow it helps to cut through the snow to aid in traction. If you don't believe me I will send you a picture, its ugly with the stretch but I can deal with the look to have more safety in the winter.

mine is 245/40r18 all around so it is good for the snow...

I seen people running 265s that might be pushing it a little

In a recent 50 mile drive in mildly adverse conditions here in NH, I passed 6 vehicles that had gone off the road. 5 were SUVs. 3 of those 5 had rolled over. AWD has its advantages, but does not make bad drivers better. In Germany and some other countries, you need more than a pulse to get a driver's license.

Never. Winter lasts all of 3 weeks here *lol*. Car stays in the garage during "winter" and either the STi or the VX are driven.

I have seen people running around with 265 and saying that their car sucks in the winter, little do they know. I have seen some running with 245, I thought of doing that but figured if BMW recommends 235 I will go with it. A bit strecthed for me and I worry that I will knick the wheel at some point.

Where I am located there are a good majority of people driving around with their 22 inch rims and clearly don't have winter tires on. Drives me nuts that they are stupid enough to do this.
