Is anyone planning to combine this knob with the IND M3 tri-color boot?

That's what I wanted to do, but the leather boot seems to be well-glued to the base of the new F10 M5 knob.

I just installed this scenario yesterday. It is well glued but it will eventually break free. Take your time so you don't end up damaging the knob.

Anyone know if the normal 3 series e90/92 base ring is the same as the ones in the M3?

This would be great. I'm sure IND can do it for you, ring conversion and all.

Anyone from IND want to chime in here?........

any pics of this?

I plan on ordering but installing with an alcantara boot that I have...how do you fasten the knob to the boot? glue? clips?

I wish they just sold the illuminated knob separately

Hi. Can we see pics of your install?

What was your technique for separating the F10 boot from the knob?

It would be nice if the F10 knob was recessed on the bottom (under the trim ring) to conceal the mating to the IND boot. If possible, can you provide a close-up pic of the knob/boot transition?

I'll try to get a pic up tonight. It's basically a zip or cable tie secured from the inside of the boot, between the silver trim ring and the plastic ring that held the original boot in place. The boot is then pulled down over the zip, similar to the way the e-brake handle and boot are assembled. If you use a zip tie, put the female end on the front of the knob so you can't see the bump. I used a Velcro cable tie which lets the boot lay flat all the way around.

Question, I see that the instructions to remove the stock shift knob is to just pull it up? So are there no threads on the shifter? What is the thread pattern (if there is one).

If there are no threads does that mean you can only replace the stock with with different OEM BMW knobs?

I prefer the solid SS or Ti type knobs. Thanks

No threads, it's notched and snaps in. SS and Ti knobs would look retarded on an M3.

You can use a universal type like the Momo knobs. They secure with 3 allen type screws. As mentioned above, BMW knobs snap into place. No Threads

If you use the zip tie method, this is a link to the low profile cobra ties. They won't bump out like a traditional zip tie. The 7" should be more than enough to wrap around the ring.

Installed. OEM.

Just installed it and used the ring from another M3 boot I had laying around. Pretty easy and looks OEM.

For those that installed the F10 M5 shift knob, can you describe how it feels compared to the stock M3 shift knob? Does it help with shifting (especially 1->2)? Do you find it too low? Does anything get in the way?

Thanks guys!

It's the same as the ZHP weighted shift knob but with a light. The added weight helps smooth out the clunkiness of the 1-2 shift but it doesn't remove it completely.
