Who sees a Tesla in their future?

Reading up on the S- I'm actually seeing myself in one of these things in a few years.
Who else is surprised that they like this machine?

Definitely the future of cars. I saw something the other day predicting the US will be energy independent by 2030. Pretty wild.

I think it's pretty cool.

Reminds me of my remote control cars and how they were always superior with the nitro engines. But lately brushless electric motors are faster, cheaper, cleaner, and easier to maintain. It seems like the nitro cars have that element of nostalgia. I see that happening with our fossil fueled vehicles being phased out. Going to miss engine roars and exhaust notes.

Tesla S seems like it would be cool to own but definitely would miss the sound of a nice engine.

Neat cars, no matter what I need fuel to get the distances I drive daily.

Ill miss the rumble of a V8 though. Not my BMW but still love a V8 sound.

I'm with you. Nothing like a good engine note . We are slowly going from v8 to v6 to i4...................

There is a tesla showroom @ the roosevelt field mall here in NY. I visit it each time im @ the mall. Very impressive machine indeed. I love the S sedan.

Driving on Highway 85 (Los Gatos saw 2 )

Saw a Gray one and a White one.
It looks pretty good bigger than I expected.
If I could get the 300 mile range one for 50k I would be more
tempted.
Right now the Volt looks like a more practical solution but
not nearly as nice.

Gul wing doors on the Model x look nice but how are you going
to put gear on top.

I've seen the showroom at Roosevelt field mall too but it's always crowded, does look really nice though.

Never, couldn't buy a car I couldn't go on a trip with. Their mileage figures are jokes. Hydrogen, however, is the future. I can do an electric car but batteries will not work for me.

after watching a mini TV documentary on that company, they seem like great people, honest, and driven. I see a bunch of them in NYC and they really are nice, but i don't know, that i7 looks MEAN as I read in Car&Driver, Tesla had a big chance to make a unique front face, to mark its brand, but failed with that awkward GT-R like grill..

Flash in the pan fad, Tesla will be gone in a few years, and then there will be no support for them.

i like that its an american car company and environment friendlier..

but think its still a little too pricey

does have a very nice design minus the fact that its got the whole gear lever on the steering column thing i hate.

I have a test drive of the S booked for next week - still think it will take some time on the infrastructure before I would be sold on long distance driving with it, but they seem to be ahead of the game in terms of range and speed of recharging - should be an interesting next 10 years to see where all the next gen electric and hydrogen tech goes - hydrogen may be the future, but will still be fuel sell running electric, so my guess will that there will be a convergence of the the 2 technologies at some point - still want to feel what some real electric torque feels like in a sporting car!

There really is no hybridization. Yes, its a fuel cell running electric. But the "battery" is hydrogen.

A traditional battery will never work. They are too slow to charge and they wear out quickly. Top Gear put it right, who wants a car that has a $7,000 gas tank that takes hours to fill and needs to be replaced every few years? The car of the future is the car of today. Hydrogen gives us the, "drive to the pumps" experience that works so well today.

And its considerably closer than the idea of a "station" where someone swaps out a 500lb battery pack to get you to the next station:

I want BMW to make a 3 series version of this, Id be on it the moment stations become ubiquitous (which will happen when fuel gets too expensive). If the wiki article is correct and you are looking at $5 per 60 miles then its bang-on for cost of fuel now. The cars are still pricey (only available at lease because they are nearly $200k to make) but their shortcomings will be solved and the prices will drop considerably faster than battery tech can advance.

The sooner we get people converted over to this then the longer I can continue to put gasoline in my high powered toys.

True electrics only work as "city" cars. It would always be a second car option, not the primary option. You'll always need a petrol car in the garage for the days when you need to drive more than 100 miles, so people will always start with that car and the electric would be the "if I had the money" car.
