PSS on 220M.

So, I've looked through more posts than I can remember looking for the answer to this question, and cannot find it. Please don't flame me, I've even tried the search function.

What are the biggest Michelin PSS's I can get on my 2008 E90, totally stock, no spacers, with no fit or rubbing issues? I am not averse to adding spacers eventually for cosmetics, but am afraid of vibration, as I do A LOT of highway miles.

I suppose that's a great question. I really can't even answer it logically. I guess I've always associated wider tires with better performance, but I am willing to admit that is probably far from the whole truth.

I would stick with oem 245/35 and 265/35 which is the optimum width for the wheel and should be more than enough rubber.

I have also 220 M 19'' wheels with Michelin PSS (before PS2)
245/35 & 265/35 and they are just perfect
Remark ; the sidewall is tighter and straighter...looks better and feels better
They make also a little more roadnoise than the PS2.
But fore me....best tire fore a ///M3 with amazing grip

If he wanted to, what size tires could the wheel support? 255 f, 275 r?

I am thinking the same thing. A little more contact patch (especially on the rears) could help keep traction where we lose it so easily today.

You can run the 255/275 setup on the 220s no problem and tons of guys are doing it. It just wouldn't be optimal thats all, you would probably only notice any difference is if you are above 8/10s driving.

Do 255/275. 245/265 is kinda crappy for hard/track driving on a 3700# 414hp car. It feels worlds better with 275+. The 220m aren't wide enough to run more than 275/255 though without being very balooned, and balooned tires don't grip as well.

TL;DR: 275/255 will work well.

Do you have reasoning as to why you believe it isn't optimal? What would you notice at 8/10ths and above?

We are keeping the staggered setup just adding some width. Does it have to do with sidewall or something?

Like others have said for the stock rims just stick with 255/275. Other rims some have even gone up to 295 in the rear with no issues

It is because the tire is somewhat too large for the rim width. It will fit, but will be "balooned" rather than an ideal fitment. It probably won't have quite the grip as the same width tire on a 1/2" wider rim.

You can't beat the feel of the stock size PSS's. If you're going for looks, don't go more than +1 upsize on the 220's.

If I go with 255/275 on 220m wheels, should I decrease the aspect ratio to 30 on both or leave it at 35?

Leave them at 35, I tried 255/275 on the 220 and did not like the monster truck look. 255/275 are perfect on the zcp wheels but IMHO the 220 are better with stock sizes. The pss appear much larger than the ps2 anyway given the same size.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not intrested in looks, just want better grip specially at the rear. I don't know if such a small increase will make any difference though.

I have the evolve tune, primary cat delete, airbox and pulley. With the pss I have no issues with grip. I noticed no difference between the 265 and 275 setup. I do not track the car so maybe there is a difference but not on the street.
The tread width is only .200 wider on the 275. 10.0 vs 10.2

35 profile will have a thicker sidewall than 30 of course, which will cause more of a "monster truck look" that you're talking about. I'd run 275/35 for sure, but maybe 255/30. The 10mm won't make a ton of difference in grip, but it is worth doing if you're getting new tires anyway.

I would absolutely not run a 255/30/19. It's not necessary to drop to a 30 series tire on the front unless you go up to 275/30. 255/35 is the way to go for the front.

I run 265/30/19 on the front; 265/35/19 rubbed badly on the fender liner (AD08 on a 9"). I'd agree if you were talking about 18's.
