Tranny won't kick down

I have no idea what has happened to my DCT tranny in D mode. I drive about 50 50 in manual and D mode. Always in S/D 5 and always have throttle sensitivity to the max.

This has always meant that a tap on the throttle in D mode, especially when in D5 would kick down several gears and I never had to step on it and engage the "kick down" "click"

Lately I can press the pedal all the way down to the floor, just before you compress the kick down and it drops maybe 1 gear. So 7th to 6th. When before it would be dropping to 3rd or 4th if it was freeway speeds.

It essentially is shifting the same in D1-D5 in terms of how aggressive the tranny map seems to be and its really frustrating as its simply taken a D5 mode which almost read my mind to one that is virtually useless.

Its a 2012, probably latest software and taking it in on saturday for oil change but not even sure what to tell them or what direction they could even look

Wish I had better advice but I would obviously just explain this to your service rep and then take him and or a tech for a ride to really drive your point home. Best of luck

Ask if they with reset dct re-adaptation. Sounds like its learnt your quick foot movements and is tying to smooth out the shift patterns. It might just relearn again

It's not as complicated as a 6MT beating a DCT in a race

this is one of the reasons I went with a 6MT. for me the experience of driving a sports car is so much more engaging with 3 pedals...and YOU get to decide when to shift...not a computer

I've seen numerous issues with DCT, and it simply continues. If I were going to keep this car past 50k warranty, I would never consider DCT - plus I like 6MT better.

OP take your car to a track and drive it hard. The tranny will adapt and be a lot more responsive. Do keep in mind that it will at some point learn granny mode again if you don't drive it hard from time to time..................Phil

If you guys think that these are actual issues with dct cars then you know nothing about the SMG days. I can't imagine what half of you would've done

Serious or not he's off to the dealer regardless...not likely too see an MT thread saying hey...my clutch has adapted to my foot movements and needs to "relearn" them ..all seems so silly.

I shift as fast or as slow as my hand and foot wants to..and thats the way I like it..

Other than changing your driving habits, is there a way to 'reset' the computer learned adaptations? I recall having to reset the throttle response on my previous Audi after city driving in traffic for several weeks. Not sure if something similar exists for DCT?

I have my car to the track about once a month and have never noticed an issue with the transmission changing its behavior. I run manual shifting on track and typically auto shifting on the street. Maybe your 2012 learns more aggresively than my 2008.

I don't think its an adaptation problem as I literally 100 percent of the time modulate the auto when I am in it to aggressively drop to the lowest gear and nail it all day long. Essentially have never driven the car slowly in manual or auto in terms of dropping to the lowest gear and hitting 8k as much as possible. That is why it bothers me. A "normal' driver would probably not think anything of it but I am the one on the freeway ever 2 miles dropping it to 3rd and taking off so I notice it when I stomp on it and it shifts from 7th to 6th ! Not good.

I am fine using manual but the point is Id rather learn if there is some probem with the tranny, not the fact I could simply use manual mode all the time and be fine which is ok with me but given it will go out of warranty in a year Id rather pay attention to this stuff while covered.

Also on the freeway I find auto mode very helpful and often flip back and forth between manual and auto. If I am in auto I often hammer the throttle to before the kick down, it drops me to 4th, then I manually drop to 3rd for example, nail it, rev out to 8400, shift to 4th and then click it back into auto to cruise a few miles. Its become so second nature that it happens instantly but I find the auto mode extremely effective for aggressive driving compared to any other autobox I have ever driven-so I really am on the fence of this not simply being an "automatic"

OP....here's a quick test for you. When you're in manual mode cruise'n in 6th or 7th gear floor it and feel the click. At that point shift down 1 time.......it should drop you to the lowest possible gear........not the next gear down (unless you're at 8400 rpm already). I would say if this doesn't work you have a problem.

No that still works (to be in M7, pull the left paddle and click down pedal to the ground)-drops you to lowest which is 3rd or 4th usually on the freeway.

I am talking about full auto D mode driving. The thing is it still will properly kick down once every 10 times so I know mechanically it "can" do it, however will not most times.
