MotorSport Magazine was in attendance with us at the 40 Years of M Event at the Nurburgring, where BMW revealed the BMW M6 Gran Coupe and BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition.

Available for us to drive was an assortment of modern and classic BMW M models and MotorSport Magazine took the opportunity to put together a series of back to back video/sound clips of the E92 M3 GTS, E90 M3 CRT, E46 M3 CSL, and the 1M Coupe.

Did the standard M3 have the M Performance exhaust? It sounded a bit louder than stock...

Nice video but I think the edits of clips was way too short. They were like 1 second each...not really enough time to really hear the engine/exhaust.

Love the CSL rasp. I never understood why people wanted to eliminate the rasp sound. I, personally, love it.

The CSL is without a doubt the best sounding 6 cylinder ever made. And it is in my top 5 best sounding cars ever list.

The 1M was just out classed by everything. That is probably the first and only time that has ever been said. Lol

Great video. 1M is the weakest/wimpy sound by far. Makes me wonder if the turbos will tone down the next M3 too.
