Please edify me. Thanks folks!
I would imagine. That color has soo many layers of different colors added. I am assuming that JzB is very expensive too.

Good point uthatch. The paint is expensive because of the pigments that it is made of. I'm a paint sprayer for 12 years now, and I just know. And yes you were lucky they tested the paint, even if the recepie of the paint is computerized, it is not an easy task to match the color. The best technique is to blend in into the part next to the painted part.... that way you get a perfect match. All the best!

Red is more expensive because its more transparent and takes more coats of paint to cover an area. Also, the pigment to make red is more expensive.

Color matching a car you would think is easy, but there are various shades of the same color depending on the factory it was painted in.

Maybe if you're painting you're bedroom wall , but its getting the pigment red that ends up making it more expensive since it takes more work to actually make it. Any car that is being painted by a professional is going to have the proper primer underneath requiring no more coats than almost any other paint , unless of course you're getting into a candy and thats a whole different story

Over thirty years ago (far before this thread was conceived), a chemist/artist told me that the element Au (gold) is used making red pigment, thus the price.
