The sound along is worth it and the extra HP is just a +

I just got mine and I tried to install it but that metal piece on top of it can't really fit on mine. Am I missing something here? Can't seem to be just an extra part. How different are filters for 2008 vs late 2009 and is this related? Thanks.

Just a little louder then the stock filter since its sucking in alot more air.

It does change the sound. 3-4k RPM you will notice a rough throaty sound. The stock filter is extremely thick and masks that throaty sound. The AA filter is freer flowing and doesn't muffle the natural sound of the engine as much.

The AA definitely adds some raunchy ripping intake noise that the OEM filter does not when pushing it hard. It's just an audible thing, nothing performance wise.

Garage List
2013 BMW M3  [0.00]
Been running mine for a few weeks.

for what it's worth...

No whistling noise.
I definitely noticed the change in the sound. It's unmistakeable, at least on my car (2013).

No complaints so far. I'm driving from Maryland to my old stomping grounds (Huntington Beach and Zooport), so around 6,000 miles there and back), this week so the filter should be put through the ringer. I'll update with a report on how the filter holds up.

Just got mine today (thanks, Andrew) and got it installed - quick & easy. Took the car out for a quick drive and there is a noticeable difference in the induction noise between 3-4k, especially when hard on throttle. Not exactly sure how to describe it - a bit more raw, course... raspy, maybe? - anyway, I like it.

I assume this will mean a drop in mpg, as I'll be more inclined to put my foot in it!

The problem with these or any oiled filters in terms of the 5 hp gain you get is once the filter gets dirty and you clean it yourself, you never get the filter to flow as well as it began and any power gain is negligible. Therefore the only reason to get these is if you don't want to buy a new filter every 15k and instead keep it and clean it to save money which to me is silly.

I buy a new green filter every 10 miles.

Your change interval is too long, I buy a new green filter every 7-8 miles.

We recommend cleaning it every oil change but depending on how dirty it is after the first cleaning you can extend it or clean it sooner.

Many customers purchase 2 filters and a cleaning kit swapping them on every oil change. This ensures the filter gets a good cleaning and is allowed to dry properly before using.

i was about to buy one of these. but its to much of a hassle for me to worry about cleaning it and worrying about if its clean or needs to be clean. i would probs just keep buying a new one. all that for some more induction noise.

its great for the price though, i came close!
