I don't believe any list where a brand can move more than seven places in a year. No company makes that much improvement in such a short period of time. It just doesn't make sense.

BMW had 4 engines win at the international best engine of the year contest. The N54 was one of them.

Saw this a couple weeks ago. Something is definitely off with this list.

Is this for new vehicles or just any car measured in a year-to-year basis? Either or, find it surprising that it could just jump into the top 10. Heck, no German brand should be that close to the top...lol

BMW is not more reliable than Honda. Thats a facially invalid statement, and VW doesnt belong anywhere near the word "reliable". I have an 03 Accord that gets used for hauling and whatnot, in 93K miles it has been to the dealer for unexpected issues a grand total of 0 times. BMW produces vastly superior cars, but to suggest theyre more reliable is folly.

Ford had a very low rating from JD Power this year due to the introduction of three new models and problems with their computerized radio and information system. I don't know how it made the top 10 here.

My parents have had Toyotas in various forms for 3 decades and over a million miles and have had zero failures. I had my BMW for nine months and it left me stranded.

I will say BMW is reliable too. My dad has a E39 for almost two decades now, and still no failure. His only complaint to his car is the cup holder XD and I agree btw...

Ya i agree too, there is something wrong with this list. The BMW N54 engine had alot of problems, also Hyundai is number 2? Seriously? That is the most unreliable car manufacture of 2012! I mean i do believe Nissan and Honda are reliable, had them for years and not one single problem in them, but Hyundai/Kia made the top 10?? LMFAO. My Ducati is more reliable than any Hyundai car.

I love how everyone is an expert here based on the 4 cars they have owned in their lifetime.
Their research must be useless since they didn't drive your cars. This is simply a report from a company that took the data they had and translated it into a number for reliability. Take it for what it is |

I've owned a dozen cars and the most trips to the dealer by a long shot was the 135i. FWIW, I know 5 people with N54 powered cars and all had at least one HPFP failure. One of them had 3, another had 4, and another had his car lemon lawed after 5 replacements. Them is the facts.

I used to have a 2004 Acura TL and it would visit the dealer multiple times. It didn't have the typical Honda build. I've went through two transmissions and numerous amount of electrical problems. I assumed I got a bad apple but my buddy purchased a 2007 TL and had to get a new engine already. My BMW has been more reliable.
