My solution to a rust free wheel hub
As many of you know our wheel hubs rust like crazy. Although perfectly normal and harmless it still bugs me looking at it every time I change my wheels each winter/summer season. I got my car back in July 2010 and first noticed rust when I changed to aftermarket HRE's only a few months later. It could only get worse so I cleaned it up with a steel wool pad and did some research to prevent it rusting again and came up with this stuff:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en and http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en I only used that copper anti-size stuff (first link) one time as I thought that was a bit overkill and only started using the Fluid Film spray after, spraying liberally on the hub each time I changed wheels for the season. I haven't cleaned the wheel hubs since 2010 and they still look perfect!

I just threw on my winters on the E90 M3 yesterday and my first thought was just how ugly that rust is...haha.
I may give this a shot! Thanks!

Hey Daft, thanks for this thread.
We recently changed the wheels on our M3 (from winter back to summer), and were a little alarmed when we saw the rust on the wheel hubs, especially at the rear. This seems to be the easiest solution I've found. To remove the rust, you just used a steel wool pad and removed the rust... that's it? Thanks! Julie

Just make sure to not get anything on the wheel/rotor bolted surface or you need to degrease it afterwords. That joint relies on friction between the two surfaces and any lubricant will be bad.
