My buddy has an 2012 RS5, nice, quick, but I hate his interior and his Nav/Phone system. Too complicated. I dont knock it but I still prefer the M3. My car handles and responds better then his. I'm just going with my opinion from driving both....

the RS5 is cool. the dealer by me was asking almost 100k about a month ago, which is fucking stupid.btw not enough info about how you drive your cars, what you are looking for etc... i have 3 friends that have s4/rs4 b7s and ones a b6 and these cars have nothing but problems. and not to mention they are very slow, imo
if i had to choose i would go with the m3 and throw full exhaust, a filter, tune, and pully. That way you will have about the same hp as the rs5 with the agility of the M |

RS5 unlike other Audis is limited production. It's going to stand out more than M3. M3 will reward you more when pushed to the limit but I have never seen ANY M3 driver push their cars to the limit on public street yet. (Guys, how many of you oversteers onto the freeway?) Unless you are a track junkie, go with the RS5 in my opinion. The engine sounds terrific, the style is best in class inside/outside and you get that exclusivity, at a price of course. Ultimately comes down to which car you like more, there's no subsitute for a M3 neither is there one for RS5.
Caveat is if you buy M3 now it's going to be outdated next year. I rather have the lighter and more powerful M3. As far as reliability both are german so that goes out the door. Unreliable is part of the experience, JD powers just rated BMW X5 one of the worst reliable used car to stay away from. Audi has their own problems. I'd step up to a porsche if you want more reliable german cars.

Try them all out. I'll bet you pick the RS5. No point getting a M3 now, IMO.
Then go drive a C63 with LSD and P31! (j/k)I loved my E92 M3 and I loved it on the track. That was generally the only time I really loved it (or when ripping it on the freeway with sport mode on). My 335i pulled harder down low in the city and the ultra conservative interior of the M3 coupled with those annoying seats really bothered me for such a nice car. Hell, a E36 M3 with the Vadars had a nicer interior relatively speaking. I've realised that except for the S65 (which I love and will one day swap into a Z4MC), I prefer the E46 to the E92 M3. Classier this, destroys competitors that (complete horseshit, go look on Fastest Laps), all fanboi self-justifications. Drive the one you want to drive. At the end of the day, a 2/10th of a second difference set by professionals on tracks will not transalate into your doing the same (as someone else said).

I just checked out a new RS5 yesterday, the car is extremely impressive in person. Really aggressive exterior and a beautiful interior to match. However, it definitely was not worth the 91k asking price...

91K! They must be jacking up the price....most I've seen are in the mid 70s. Give it a few months and they'll sell for under MSRP like every other RS model Audi puts out. I'm tempted to trade my C63 in for one....

RS5
I would go for the RS5. I've actually been looking at them for the past 3-5 days. We like what we like, and I like the RS5 more - looks and interior. And please don't go there with the "M3 will MURDER that car" business. The professional drivers are saying that the cars are very similarly based on performance, indicating the strengths and weaknesses of each. Some say it will come down to the skill of the drivers. How many of us have spent $1,500 on a single driver lesson? How many of us are more accustomed to driving on difficult roads other than these straight line American highways? Well, my hand is raised (I have youtube videos posted) ... how about yours?
Anyway, I think for me, the M3 is OLD and PLAIN. The Audi is NEW and FRESH. So, it's kinda like the new chick that is hired at the job - she becomes the most intersting one ... if only for a moment. |

Wow so much misinformation and fanboy-ism here
![]() For those of you who don't know, the RS5 has already been out in Europe for a few years. Those of you saying that Audi has had so many years to catch up to the BMW M3, well you're just making asses out of yourselves because they've both been selling side-by-side for some time in European markets. Now to those who say the 4.2 V8 in the RS5 is the same one or similar to the 4.2 in the RS4, you're also wrong. The 4.2 in the RS5 is derived from the 5.2 V10 in the R8, and has little or no relation to the previous 4.2 V8 in the RS4. I'm not even an Audi fan but I know this stuff. Kids, do your homework before posting. Having said all that, I would trade my higher-power CTS-V in for an RS5 simply based on looks, motor, transmission, and AWD.

It really comes down to how the car feels not a few tenths around the track. I haven't driven an rs5 but I'm willing to bet the m3 feels better all around. I own an r8 v10 and I like the quality of the interior but the controls/entertainment system is far from intuitive specially compared to the bmws.

Ignore the fanboys who are merely justifying their own possessions as a corollary for their seld-esteem. Buy whichever one "feels" right to you. I loved my M3... but the C63 always lurked at the back of my mind. When they redesigned it and changed the suspension, interior, tranny, etc. I traded my M3 in for it after 1 drive and still do not regret it.

The RS5 has been tested as faster than the M3 in various comparisons recently on the track. So, it might be heavier but it is comparably as fast or faster. I can't comment on fun factor (where the M3 would likely prevail) but it is very much comparable.

This is a fun one! I tested out a RS5 before re-upping in the M3. RS5 was a nice car, and it's a high revving and powerful as well. I just didn't like the seating position, the mass of the car (not literal perhaps, but the feeling it was a "big" car), and the way it was geared. If I was a suit who wanted a nice GT car that was exclusive, it would be the ticket.
For my purposes (track fun, modding, cost / options to do both, etc.), the M3 just made more sense for me. Reviews are too subjective to each editorial team. Like everyone has said, try both out and find out for yourself. Good luck, and what a fun problem to have!

Just because RS5 does not offer MT, I don't even think about it, similar reason for C63.
I had a C63 for couple days, omg the sound was awesome (still can't forget), power/torque was exotic. But after 2 days I was bored of it. Gas/Break Auto is just simple boring. RS5 will have great DSG, similar to DCT in M3. I don't know, if it's going to be a sports car, I need that third pedal to control my car.

I think before someone gates an RS5 they should at least wait until the new M3 comes out. I think it will be much better then the RS5. |

if he want a two door, it wont be around for at least two more years, that's a long wait if you want a new car now!

If you don't track your car much, go with the RS5, I just had an encounter with one on the highway and I got to say I was REALLY impressed by the car, it look so good and the sound is just incredibly awsome, probably the most beautifull front end I've ever seen in my rear view mirror, those headlights make the car look like a million bucks.
I was also really impressed by the performance, thanks to it's 7-speed dual clutch tranny, he was able to hang with my 6-speed VT1-535 for a couple of second each time we went WOT because of its better gearing and gear change! Also as people know the RS5 has pretty much the same performance then an M3 in professional hands which meens that in hands of most people it will be faster around a circuit due to its AWD which makes it easier to drive fast! Heres the RS5 I've raced this week, so nice in black on black, just a bad ass car, better looking then an M3 IMO!

I was talking about driver involvement and fun. Not really interested in the specs comparison as the two cars are pretty evenly matched. What sells me is how the car involves the driver when at the limit. Rwd/weight dist/chassis tuning. I'm sure the audi is fun to drive fast just not in the same way as the M3 is with opposite lock.

just saw the rs5 at the auto show. audi is way better on interior and close on exterior but the m3 performs better, weighs less, and comes in manual.
