Brembo BBK questions

Hi guys,

At the moment my E90 has no brake or suspension upgrades.
I'm looking to upgrade both and I'm looking for some info on Brembo's BBK

I don't track my car often - at most 4 times/year, so time savings in pad changes is not an issue. I guess I don't really need a BBK if I seldom track my car, but I wanted to find out about the wieght savings of the BBK kits.

Does anyone know the weight difference between stock F/R setup and Brembo's 380mm BBK? Is there any weight savings between the 380mm and the 365mm? I have 18" rims so the 365mm is looking like a more attractive option for me right now. Plus, I think the rotational inertia is less.

It's about 3 lbs per corner. And definitely noticable in the handling of the car!

The 365mm rotors will of course weigh a little bit less vs the 380mm, but not much.

If your wheels clear the 380mm kit, I would get that one in the front (if you track the car regularly - otherwise it's $$$ overkill for a street car).

I have 355/345 mm on my track-prepped 335i and it works great.

Thanks for the reply ... only 3lbs difference? Is this the difference in the rotor assembly alone or the whole kit? I thought because of the monoblock aluminum caliper and floating hat, you would save at least 8lbs/corner.

Those weight saving numbers are about right. The 365mm rotor maybe a 1-2 lbs lighter. If you are looking for more weight saving, the Stoptech Trophy will save you nearly 5 lbs on their 380mm 6 piston kit and around 8 lbs per corner on their 355mm kit.

I'm Not sure brembos are very corrosion resistant. My hubs have oxidized a little bit. They were black when new and are turning a shade of grey.

Why are you concerned about weight savings when it comes to brakes?
You WANT some mass there to give more thermal capacity.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

The same reason for light weight wheels. Lowered unsprung weight impacts handling and acceleration. I think the weight savings from BBK's comes more from the calipers and the centers of the rotors and less from the clamping portion of the rotor.
