Congrats and enjoy! Did you go with the 3.45 or 3.62 FD?

I'm looking forward to your diff review

I should have my DOL 3.62 FD diff within the next 2-3 weeks

I originally ordered the 3.62, but Dinan recommended to go with the 3.45 for the stroker motor...

what lsd is inside the dinan diff?
manufacturer? setup? ramps (power/coast)? number and coating of clutches?

i am experimenting with lsds here as well. i currently have os giken, drexler (bmw ms m3gt4 unit), titan and zf for my m3. of course it will take a while to have them all tested in detail.
the first os giken setup (standard spec-s) completely failed. now i will get some different parts from japan to hopefully get it to work properly.
finding and setting up the perfect lsd for someones driving style is an exciting thing. :-)

What speed do you think the 3.45 will top out at?

Assuming stock rear tire diameter (265/40-18, ignoring tire deformation), DCT, and 8400 and 8600 (increased with DME tune/reflash) rpm redlines:

Stock 3.15 FD with 8400 rpm redline: 209 mph 7th gear, 173 mph 6th gear
Stock 3.15 FD with 8600 rpm redline: 214 mph 7th gear, 177 mph 6th gear

3.45 FD with 8400 rpm redline: 190 mph 7th gear, 159 mph 6th gear
3.45 FD with 8600 rpm redline: 195 mph 7th gear, 163 mph 6th gear

3.62 FD with 8400 rpm redline: 182 mph 7th gear, 151 mph 6th gear
3.62 FD with 8600 rpm redline: 186 mph 7th gear, 155 mph 6th gear

These are theoretical top speeds based on gearing only - the M3's top speed will be drag limited (or speed limited if running a stock tune). I calculated the speed vs gear values quickly so I may have made a mistake...

I went with the 3.62 because 2nd gear will redline at ~60 mph with an 8600 rpm.

Not sure if Dinan uses the stock M-var diff, clutch packs with/without custom ramp angles, Quaife, OS Giken...?

I went with the stock e92 M3 M-var diff (not built by Dinan) because my car will spend the majority of its time on the street. On my e46 M3 (track prep'd) I had swapped to a 4.10 FD 3-clutch plate diff with custom ramp angles.

With all the people complaining about lack of torque in our car I'm wondering why this mod is not more popular. It was one of the must-have mods when I had my Mustang, unless one had a root style blower (which I did )

This is a true statement... but first gear is already useless! So that's going to make it even more useless... I have 11's on the back and if I give it gas even in second gear around 3500 ish RPM, I can often break the tires loose.

On a 6MT car I think it's a disadvantage too because it's hard to get that 1 --> shift perfect, but on DCT I bet it just rapes. DCT's are just too insane.

I updated the OP's DCT software to the latest version when we did the tune a few weeks ago, so he's ready to rock with that new diff Can't wait till it's broken in and we hear his report!

Even on a relatively stock car, which I have HFC, xpipe, AA filter and 95 octane, 1st gear is useless as spins the wheels easily and is no good. Gears would render it completely obsolete. Second has great thrust and can hold it to 66mph, rather than gears which lower it to 57mph. So ultimately what you get is useless gear 1, bit more torque throughout second but it lasts a shorter time and a bit more in third but lasts significantly shorter amount of time before shifting up.

Depends totally on where you drive and how you drive. If you use higher gears a lot like 4 and above than they can help with torque. If you play arond in 2nd and 3rd, the OEM gears allow you to have a wider power band of speed to maintain the full thrust and torque multiplication of 2nd gear and 3rd gear which are far more important than the minor increase from a new diff

Does anyone know which fluid Dinan recommends for the diff?

I remember taking my car in last year for the rubbing diff noise and they added some uber expensive friction modifier/fluid..

Curious if the Dinan diff has this issue and if it uses the standard fluid or special fluid.

Unusual that you can't get the rear down... What tyres are you running and are you running non oem coils/springs??

On their website they recommend BMW synthetic diff fluid #83 22 2 282 583. Not sure if they recommend using the additive/modifier if you have diff whine but my guess is they would suggest adding it...

What problem are you having? How many miles/ what kind of use? Are there known problems with the Dinan diff?

I'm running H&R Springs with E36 Bump Stops for more travel + 19x11 LM's in the rear with 275/35/19 PSS's. I'm going to try going with 295/30/19 next time around. (Sorry to go OT)
