THIS....

I HIGHLY endorse Ryan and Checa at Steve Thomas in Camarillo.

Literally the best car buying experience I've ever had. Was worth every ounce of gas I used traveling up from San Diego to purchase my AW E92 M this past September. I would encourage all prospective buyers to check them out. Thanks again!

I would avoid buying in California if you can. If you can buy in Oregon or Washington go that route. You WONT pay sales tax (Oregon if resident over 6 months) and for 2-3 years of registration it ran me $45. I have had my 2014 decal when I bought in 2011.

If you must buy in California go with a board dealer. They have shown they give good discounts.

I am in Memphis TN, just trying to figure out what to offer on this car. I am thinking $69k out the door (state tax for car is 5%)

Just offer what you want. Worst thing that will happen is they say no.

With the new M3/M4 on the horizon I would offer $60k cash and walk if they say no, regardless of what people think its worth. I have seen wholesale prices on these used and they are $30k-$60k.

$60k cash... like a boss. Like it matters to the dealer you paid with a bank's check or cash. What does wholesale used M3s have anything to do with prices of a brand new '13?

I just did this, my car has Comp, Prem, DCT, Sat, Apps, MSRP $72,645. I paid $69,500. Subtracted from that was $1,500 Holiday Credit and $750 Loyalty credit so bottom line I paid $67,250. Understand their cost is around 93.5% of MSRP because of the gas guzzler tax. They aren't going to do a deal without something like $1,000-$2,000 over their cost. In my case their cost was $68,020. It is counter productive to offer something under their cost for a 2013. Know their cost, know what credits you're entitled to, offer something reasonable, and they'll take it.

That doesnt sound right to me. Also, dont dealers usually have their cars on consignment from corporate (i.e. dealer doesnt actually lay out cash and buy every BMW on their lot).

Anyway, OP as I said earlier, just make an offer for what you think you should pay. Either you make a deal or you dont. If you are worried about lowballing or not being fair then just accept you will likely overpay.

Only if you live in those states though right? If I buy a car in Oregon and bring it back to NY , I have to pay the sales tax once I register the car.Ther's no way around it.

you pay taxes on the car where ever you register the car. The only way you would have to pay CA taxes is if you drove the car from the dealership, thats why most of our WA and Oregon customers ship the cars. If you lived in a state that the taxes are higher then CA and you drove it in CA and then registered it in the higher tax state you would have to pay the CA tax and then the difference when you registered it in the higher taxed state.

30 day travel permit - drive it home from out of state & pay no sales tax at purchase by WA resident. If you lease the tax is charged in your payment.

When you register & license the car in WA you pay the sales tax & registration in the county where you live.

Oregon has no sales tax...mute point.

Only way to beat the system is cheat & register in a state w/no sales tax &
hope you don't get caught. Many high dollar motorhomes are licensed in MT
w/shell LLC's.

I bought from Golffr even though I live in New York.

Had it delivered to the Performance Center in S. Carolina.
They gave me ( free) 30 day plates, drove it home to NY and had it registered there. Drove through Tennessee on the way back home ( Tail of the Dragon) and was ready for the 1200 mile service the second day I had the car

OP -

I just bought my 2008 with 12K miles on it from Roadshow. Talk to Anthony Whitfield - he was my sales advisor. Do your homework and give the dealer a fair profit and make the offer. Hope to see you at our local BMWCCA meetings!
