i have square wheels and tires so allows more flexibility in rotation without having to dismount.

I'm a little undecided about the setups as i tend to hear that a square setup on the M would induce more oversteer due to the wider tire up front. Then again the square setup would allow me to swap rear tires forward to try and squeeze every little tread out of them. What's your take on this?
Yes, that is true. The square setup does induce more over-steer into the equation.

From personal experiences around many tracks and other drivers, the staggered setup fairs better than the square setup when both are setup correctly.

A couple great staggered setups are 265/295 and 275/295.

A great advantage of going square is cost savings (tire life).

They don't have the ad08's in a 275(the size that gives me most tire options) so i cant use them for a square setup but i could in a 265f/285r using a 35/30 tire profile, but this latter combination doesnt have much tire options. The majority of tire sizes seem to compliment a 10" square setup given that i could use a 265 with a 10" wheel, that way i could use 265F/275R or 275 square or 265F/285R. So can i safely use a 265 on a 10" wheel?

im on 19-9.5 not 18-10 so that is part of the difference. 265-30 is all i can fit up front and its damn close.

i think i may have to go with a 18x9.5F/18x10R(track only wheels) this would allow me to run a square 275 tire setup or a staggered 265/275 or 275/285. I think this is what offers the most options.

Edit-Just realized that the whole reason for running a 275 square setup is to be able to swap tires but i cant do what with different size wheels. As you may see im burnt out from all the reading and tire searching i've been doing. A square set up with 10" wheels would allow me to run 275 NT05, PSS, NT01, RS-3, Ecsta XS, Hoosiers... but not the AD08 in question here, i would have to run a 285/30r18 square set up in order to use the AD08.

Why not a Dunlop StarSpec at either 265/35 or 275/35. A 265/35 would save you 4lbs per corner.

Best combination of dry and wet weather traction. They do get a little loud as they wear but you get what you pay for in that regard. That's really what separates a good HP summer tire from a cheap (but still grippy). The Bridgestones, Michelins, and borderline Yokos will stay quiet, but the Hankook, Kumho, Dunlop, and Nittos will get loud.

I'd get the Star Spec first, then AD08 if the sizes of SS weren't available.

Don't get slightly staggered wheels and tires. Try to get the tire that is sized for the wheel, not a bigger tire. If anything you want to go in the smaller tire/wider wheel direction.

Yeah I think I'll stick to the 10" wheel and run a 275 wheel which is a size that most tires offer. The 265 tire could also be a good option as its the original size tire and wheel (10")in the stock rear zcp package. Thanks for the recommendations.

Sorry for the old thread revival but AD08s came with the E90 when I got her from the previous owner... I absolutely cant wait to switch them out when they go... I think the road noise is horrible....

I don't think my AD08's are that loud even after several track days. If it's that big of a deal to you then you should probably run all seasons or something. My only gripe about the tires is the wet performance is kinda crappy.

I have had AD08's, PS2's, and PSS and I can say from experience that the AD08's are the loudest of the bunch. Grip is great but they get loud as they wear.

PSS will die if you are a frequent autocrosser or HPDE'er. They not designed to be a track tire (sidewall, tread pattern). They will chunk under hard use. But if you are a casual autocrosser or tracker, they will do. Perfect for high po street tires.

It sounds like you want a dedicated track setup. Go with what people are recommending- AD08, Star Spec, RE11, etc.

From what others have said, the RS3 will heat cycle out and become pretty bad after a few track days, even with a a lot of tread left.
NT05 are probably the best bang for the buck now that TireRack is the only one selling the StarSpecs. Dunlop really needs to update that tire.

Was the tire pretty new? I've always read the AD08 and RS3 take the heat well.

no i got 9 full track days out of them. i attribute the chunking to lack of camber. i just installed vorshlag camber plates and am running -2.5F and -2.0R on my new set of ad08s. hope that fixes that. previous setting was whatever factory was at -1.2F or so i would guess. i expect to get about 15 days this time around.

Same here, but only at Pacific Raceways' horrible track surface; mainly T8 where there is zero traction so there is a lot of sliding (rears only)

Why not run the square 285/30-18 AD08. That would put a ton of rubber on the road and seems to be best option.

In my experience, all the tires discussed in this thread get louder as they wear down. I found the AD08's to be one of the quietest of the bunch, including the OEM Continentals.

285/30/18 is too short. 285/35/18 is closer to the stock diameters.

Agreed, but for AutoX & Track wouldn't the fact that the 285/30 effectively (a) lower the car (without suspension mods) and (2) improve the gear ratio (without spending $3k on a 4:11 rear end)?

For starters a 9.5 and 10" rim aren't wide enough for that monster 285 AD08. I ran the 285/30 on my E90 with 18x10.5" rims and there was a lot less acceleration grip. Remember that dec/acceleration is improved with taller diameter, cornering improved with width.

I only ran this size because I had the wheels and tires from me Z3 Mcoupe. They were 255/35 F with 285/30 R....this was on 18x9.5 and 10.5 ARC-8's.
