Had to fill half the tank with 87 octane the other day. The M just slurps it like water. What a big slump in MPGs. Still revving it. If anything, can't wait to burn out the lower grade out of tank.
As mentioned, just glad this is our issue and not homes, health, etc.

Hope things get a little better for you guys up there. It missed us here in NC by about 150 miles or so. Stay safe and warm, saw that nor-eastern is coming your guys way today. Brrrr

If all you have is regular then stop by the auto parts store and pick up some octane booster. Add it in the tank and you're good to go.
I bought a can of Lucas octane booster. By adding a can to a full tank of 87 regular is this equivalent to running premium fuel? Will the OB at least help avoid any issues with running lower octane fuel?

nothing wrong with regular, thats what all that ion sensing knock technology in the motor is about. (computer is still pulling timing with 91, just more with 87).

Stay safe out there.

Well, to beat the system, you should get a vanity plate with just "0"

Then, on odd days it becomes a letter "O" and on even days it becomes zero (0).

Problem solved.

If you have to fill up with 87 octane as I did on Long Island, Do Not rev the engine too high. I am basically shifting between 2000-2500 rpm. If you push the engine to hard with a lower octane you are essentially straining it. I have gone through half a tank of 87 and the car is running smoothly. I also poured a bottle of octane booster for good measure after the first 50 miles running 87. Gas lines are dying out since Friday night so I hope to fill up with premium gas very soon.

First couple of gas stations I went to were out of 93 octane. Luckily, Sunoco on Route 46 EB in Fort Lee had it. I don't see the lines either.
