That's the kind of line that you can expect to fire up a crowd on the campaign trail, especially a crowd in a town like Defiance, which is home to a General Motors (GM) factory.

There's just one problem: It's not true.......

Chrysler reacted to Romney's remarks with indignation. The company released a statement late on Thursday that made it clear that "Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China." (Those are Chrysler's italics.) Chrysler's PR folks also appeared to chide Romney with this remark at the end of their press release: "A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments."

If you look closely, you will find that things have changed significantly.
There use to be a time in this country, when a politician (on both sides) was held responsible for actual facts in their campaigns and our (the citizens) firewall was a free and independent press. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. Most larger TV and radio stations have been bought up by very wealthy individuals and corporations and they have used the public's airwaves to further their wealth by hiring and politicizing the social and political issues that divide us. In so many words, they understand that by focusing on what divides us, they can fool us into taking our eyes off the fact that the majority of Americans have been steadily losing income and status since the late 70's while our productivity has been going up. In terms of real dollars, if our incomes were pegged to productivity as they were in the 40's, 50's and 60's, today's average wage should be around 90k but it is around 45k. So doing the math shows you where that difference is going.
Instead of responding with "your guy does it too" which keeps us at each other's throats, get past the empty partisan rhetoric and see the BIG picture. We are arguing over scraps while billions are going to the folks who need them the least. We are better than this.
