You are correct, I am making some, the bungs, clamps and flanges only equal about 50 dollars for a set. Here is what gets ya, there is alot of waste pipe, you have to do the mandrel bends first on a longer pipe then cut off one end, you cant make a bend that close to the end of the pipe and flare it. 304 stainless is actually quite expensive in relative terms. Then slip on the flanges and then weld the bungs in. When making 50 sets yes it is easy for the cnc bender to do it. But when making the first set it is very time consuming and expensive.
Really try not to look at how much it costs just for two pipes. The gain in power is where the money comes from. If it was worth 5hp no one would spend the money. I dont see people complaining about spending almost the same money for a set of pulleys that give you no where the gain of the test pipes. Are they over priced, yes they are but I also dont see people complainig about spending 6k on a evo system that makes no more power than the test pipes.

Well put!

For $500 + labor one can expect a solid 15-20whp.

Throw on a tune for another $1000 and you can gain another 15-20whp.

For $1500, one could expect a realistic 25-35whp. Sounds like a pretty solid deal to me.

Especially considering that people spend double that for a just a muffler.

Unless you have access to the mandrel bender for free you cannot make them for much cheaper. Plus the hard part is getting them to fit right. Look at my pictures a few posts above, it is not as easy as it seems.

I am sure MS, like Turner before it, is making substantial profit on the pipes. It is still good power for the money and the parts companies need to make money to stay in business. For the average person paying for labor to do a one-off with stainless might cost the same or nearly as much or more, plus some of that person's time.

For $475 shipped, you can buy an entire Top Speed X-Pipe and cut the front sections off to make test pipes. This option has been available for almost a year. Band clamps cost about $10 each.

I am using the entire Top Speed X-Pipe. Back when I bought, they did not have a resonator version, so I added resonators. I think they sell one now. Delete all the cats and you gain more power (though the two primary cats are the more restrictive of the four).

I can just modify the OEM ones, but then again, not modifying them gives me the option to switch around come inspection time. I do not have my secondary cats, but I do have new resonators where the OEM ones were. I am ready to go full catless and get the tune, but for $495, I'm a bit wishy on it. I hope TMS comes back out with theirs ASAP.

Gents--I hate to drudge up an old thread, but this seemed as good a reason as any.

I worked out a group-buy offer with Doug (Senior Sales Rep) at Turner Motorsport, and it brings us down to 375 dollars for the Turner Test Pipes (ready to ship in 3-4 weeks, according to Doug). Check out my thread on the Private Sellers, Engine/Exhaust forum, if you're interested.

Sound Wise...Would going TTP be the same as the Challenge Sport X-pipe? I think Challenge uses 200 CEL Cats where our secondaries are, and I know our secondaries are 200 as well.

No first hand experience, but I've read a few threads that report the TTP setup being much quieter than the Challege Sport setup... has something to do with the thickness/weight of the stock pipes, and possibly the resonator size.
