GT 500 vs C6 zo6

Hi all. I've seen the comparison threads with The new cobra vs the Zl1 but how do you guys think it will fair against a Z06?

On a real track with turns, the Z06 would annihilate the GT500. If you are referring to drag racing, from a dig, the Z06 would also be superior due to much better traction. From a roll I'd say the GT500 may be the winner with its limitless power.
Between the 2 I'd pick a GT500. Cheaper, easier to mod, seats 4 and the C7 corvette is right around the corner.

Pretty much the same thoughts I have except I think I would pick the Vette. I wonder how close a roll on race would be say from 35 mph

It would most likely come down to driver. I believe the Z06 will pull it once it gets into the triple digits.

Vette has better aero I believe which really comes into speed at triple digits but I heard the new bone stock cobras lay down 603 torque to the wheels which I know has to help over come the weight it carries as well as the aero. I'm not sure how the gearing compares to the Vette though

From a video online it looks like both cars are dead even from a roll race to extremely high speeds, iirc saw the video shortly after the gt500 first came out and the owner of the gt500 also chimed in on one of the many threads comparing the two cars on the vette forum (all those threads got locked btw lol)

I wonder for how long? The GT 500 has gone past 200mph stock.

A stock Z06 has hit past the 198 as tested speed. Besides, due to gearing, the Z06 slows down a lot after 150. Up till 150, its very fast. I cant see the gt500 catching it to 150.

I think you may be Underestimating the GT500

Stats from Road and Track

2012 Z06. 2013 GT500

0-60. 3.6. 3.5
0-70. 4.5. 4.6
0-80. 5.4. 5.4
0-90. 6.8. 6.3
0-100. 7.9. 7.8
0-110. 9.2. 9.1
0-120. 10.7. 10.4

1/4. 11.7@124.1 11.7@128.1

A 4 mph higher trap speed tells me the GT500 is pulling away after the 1/4.

Z06's ARE very slow up top due to long gearing. If you look at 0-186 mph (300kph), its takes a long time to get there given how quick it is to 120-130 mph.

Here is a list of 0-186 times.

http://sportscarforums.com/f13/0-300...0-a-29413.html

Here are a few times from a past Sport Auto 0-300 kph test

20,7 s - Bugatti 16.4 Veyron (Handling-mode, no High Speed-Key)
28,6 s - Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7,6 s faster than the 997 GT2)
32,3 s - Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera (458 Italia: 32,4 s)
35,4 s - Corvette ZR1 (lines up with MotorTrend's 35,5 s time)
42,2 s - Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (loses power at higher speeds)
50,6 s - Lexus LFA (no comment...)

54,3 s (to 280 km/h) - BMW M3 GTS (It won't do 300 km/h...)

Tuned cars:
17,3 s - 9ff BT1000 AWD
33,5 s - MTM-Audi RS6 Clubsport (last year's Avant did it in 35,5 seconds)
36,0 s - Importracing-Nissan GT-R
41,7 s - Všth-V60 RS (tuned SL63 AMG)
51,9 s - Wimmer-C63 AMG

I think the M3 GTS should hit 300, I can tell you I did hit 315km/h on my M3, it was a long dragstrip, and I would have hit 330 or more, because of tune plus other stuff, but it was a good feeling, the car felt so glued to the road, on my e46 M3 at about 260 it would have a sense of floating which was a little scary.

You have to realize our speedometers are very off by those MPH. 315 kph indicated on your speedo was likely more like 270-275 kph.

Sport Auto actually used GPS to verify these...

Plus the M3 GTS has a huge wing on the back which causes a lot of downforce and drag...so if they said it didnt and wasnt able to hit 300 kph, it wasnt/didnt. I believe them as they use a scientific approach rather than just what a speedo indicated.

I said to 150mph. I know of the gearing. I owned one for 5 yrs. Up to 150 its very fast.

Z06 pulls hard all the way till end of 4th gear which is right at 160mph. For me personally i will never go to a heavy car after my Z06. Heavy cars are just not fun unless maybe AWD.

I'm really torn between the two. I feel like the Chevy has better aero and both are very easy to mod. I feel a smaller pulley and a tune on the cobra and its a highway beast which would give most anything out there a run for its money

Corvette drag coefficient is 0.34

GT500 drag coefficient is 0.35

The major difference is the fact that the GT500 weighs about 550 pounds more than the C6Z06 Stock stock it will beat a Z06 pretty easy. The ZR1 is closer but its a drivers race at that point.

To put it into retrospect the Zr1 runs about 130-131 in the quarter and the new GT500 is running a 126-128... Traction is missing from the GT500

My 2013 GT500 pulls over 130-135 mph in 3rd gear alone, which makes it nice not to have to shift from 45-130 in a single gear, and thankfully the TQ allows me to make that pull without having fallen behind to far.

your playing with physics here, think about it is. they have basically the EXACT same drag coefficient. Then you have a car with another 100+ rwhp/rwtq and then you take the advantage away from the weight distribution of the Z06 because the cars are already rolling which then is a difference of gearing/power. The GT500 is more powerful and the weight to HP ratio is then a non factor.

Cd isn't the whole story there is also frontal area...

All i know is while back i saw a video of verified gt500 and z06 with owners on the corvetteforum, and both cars were dead even from a rolling start up till some ridiculously high speeds, I am more than willing to be proved wrong, however

bah looked around and found out the guy that made the video deleted all his videos for some reason

anyways 126-128mph isn't far off of what the c6z traps so i don't see why the GT500 can easily beat one, of course i haven't had any first hand experience though

its a bit like the 03-04 terminators vs the c5s, it always took the stang quite a bit more power to overcome the Vette's weight advantage, at least that's how i've always looked at it

just like the terminators though you can sneeze at the shelby and it'll make 100rwhp, lol

Exactly my thoughts. I would always see the 03-04 cobras making a hell
Of a lot more power than most vettes and the Vette would still win it it would be dead even. And in term of modifications made they always seemed to minor compared to blower swaps on the cobras. Don't get me wrong, I love everything fast and I actually own a built motor 06 Saleen but even pushing my little Saleen blower to its max I can only run with my buddies bolt on Vette til about 125 then he catches me and pulls away in a hurry. I've read that the retro mustangs 05-09 I believe have terrible aero. It's like pushing a barn door through the air apparently but it seems like these two cars are fairly close. Just wonder what the next gen z06 will be like
