How to repair a door chip?

It was bound to happen some time.

Its deep, as you can tell. What is the most effective way to fix this without compromising visibility? I was thinking of sanding the edges to build it up evenly. Priming, sanding, etc.

Thoughts?

sanding would help it out and then maybe use a rock chip repair kit like dr.colorchip to touch it up. honestly it will never look perfect again but you can make it near perfect where even ocd people would forget it's there

i dont think that dr color chip will fill it enough to match the surface.. like you said, that is better for rock chips.

Honestly, I would just try touch-up paint. Any form of sanding, priming, etc. will just make the repair area larger and likely necessitate the need for a larger repair.

i was able to sand the edges of it smooth. took some focus and effort but it will stop ths spreading if i catch it with a towel or something similar. touch up paint is looking like my only option.

Touch up paint will correct it probably 95% of the way. You'll always know it's there and know where to look for it, but most people won't ever see it even if you point them in the direction to look for it.

Fill it with touch-up paint, sand it using 2000 and 2500 grit, and then polishing it.
